Program Director

The Specialized Foundation Programs Program Director has various responsibilities for the business’ operations from leading key initiatives, marketing, business development, program and project management including leading and managing the foundation programs, inspiring and driving resources both internal and external. The Specialized Foundation uses cycling as a tool for children to achieve academic, health and social success. Through investments in 1] primary scientific medical research and 2] school-based cycling programs, our mission is to increase accessibility to cycling to aid youth in personal development and education.
HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
The Specialized Foundation aims to increase accessibility to cycling through both fun and sustainable school cycling programs. And through these programs, founded by with primary scientific research, we hope to advance the understanding of how cycling can help improve the social, emotional, and physical wellbeing of children, with a focus on those with learning differences like ADHD.
This leader would report The Specialized Foundation CEO and would lead programs & projects that involve a combination of FTE reports and PT Consultants plus key external partners that would be engaged in projects / joint development.
Must:
• Can work in a lean organization, leading by energizing others, including volunteers to the cause and getting others to collaborate and meet the foundation’s mission, program milestones and drive-report on projects.
• Independent thinker and leader, able to take high level guidance, develop a plan with milestones and deliver measured results on time and on budget.
• Leader needs to be experienced and able to manage others that may or many not report to you, these individuals may have multiple conflicting responsibilities that do not always align, yet as the project manager need to be able to consistently deliver results on time and on schedule. Keen program management skills, delivering program plans and contingency planning.
• Executive presence, ability to work at and with all levels of the organization, internal and external.
1] Research Programs:
Manage/oversee relationship with medical research partners and ensure research goals and strategy align with Foundation mission and priorities. In 2016 the second phase of foundation research was initiated with Stanford University School of Medicine, Center for Interdisciplinary Brain Sciences Research to use NIRS technology to measure brain function. Working with internal resources this leader will work with the team to drive program milestones, metrics and goals.
2] School Programs:
The “Riding for Focus” School Programs (R4F) take the academic research and apply the science to measure the benefits of ‘cycling and academics’ for students in school programs.
General Program Operations:
• Drive the R4F school programs from a research pilot to a national saleable program, with eventual growth to worldwide program. Work with Specialized Bike Company’s geographic regions to develop Foundation market activation and coordination of school cycling programs that can be replicated in other markets worldwide. The goal is for cycling program activation to be owned by individual markets with support from global Foundation team.
• Be the primary main point of contact for R4F school program champions and administrators, respond to questions, disseminate information as necessary, update training materials as needed
• Facilitate all program logistics including working with demand planning to reserve program equipment (bikes, helmets, etc.), work with USA team to coordinate delivery and build with retailer partners
• Business Development head, working to expand foundation partnerships.
R4F Programs Curriculum Development:
• Work with our curriculum partner, Central Michigan University, develop, monitor, and track cycling program effectiveness; compile best practices and key learnings and integrate into program curriculum; disseminate an effective and flexible curriculum and curriculum updates to markets/schools nationally.
• Institutionalize Curriculum to meet national standards for fitness
• Develop and manage annual program champion training; coordinate activities with key internal team members
• Work with market to develop their own training programs that would substitute or supplement annual program champion training
Technology Development:
• Working with our technology partners, develop state of the art practices for executing the cycling program from electronic systems for approvals and release to biometric measurements and reporting metrics that set goals that can be shared individually with parents and securely managed to track student improvements in academic and social performance.
Programs Grants Management:
• Facilitate annual school application process and serve on school selection committee.
• Refine strategy and develop plan for scaling Program Grants: Determine number of full scholarships/grants available for each market each year and other programs to scale roll out to impact the broadest number of students possible.
• Work with partner organizations to support the school cycling programs, providing supporting grant donations, both monetary and equipment or component grants.
Communications:
• Marketing communications & Newsletter Development: Work with newsletter editor to ensure development of timely, quality, communication with Foundation constituents.
• Programs Communication: Help draft communication and with USA region on disseminating marketing/communications specific to schools and retailers
• Work with global marketing/global marketing project manager to support programs and research through multiple brand channels including website, email, social media, and PR
• Work with internal communications team to draft internal communication and presentations regarding Foundation highlights and successes
• Represent The Specialized Foundation at key events and spokesperson with media
Overall Foundation Management:
• Primary liaison between The Foundation team and Specialized Bicycle Company
• Participate in other strategy discussions such as research programs and partnership development
• Work with Executive Director on budgeting, business and strategic planning
• Plan growth of the foundation from national to global level
WHAT YOU NEED TO WIN
Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills including customer facing people skills with the capability to evangelize the foundation mission, inspire others to join in the movement. Effective presenter in small and large venues: working with new teams and external partners, strong ability to lead, manage, and motivate people and rapidly drive programs
• Solid writing and clear communications, business and presentation skills required.
• Strong outbound marketing skills: overseeing Foundation assets: Web, Video, Photography, Newsletter
• MBA and BS / BA in Marketing – Management
• Program Management: experience with strong skill in multitasking overseeing numerous projects. Established leadership skills to develop project milestones and metrics, driving meetings, action items and follow up.
• Business Development & Partnership experience
• Experience in education/academics or medical/public health is a plus
• Technology & Tools Savvy Experience ability to operate independently

◦ Tools: PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Google Apps, Confluence/JIRA, SalesForce CRM, Campaign & Analytic Tools
• Strong interest and passion for cycling and fitness, children and education. Amateur or professional riding is NOT required.
