Title: Pediatric Psychologist (Consultation/Liaison)
Company Children’s Hospital is seeking a full time licensed or license eligible Pediatric Psychologist. This is a new position to add to our growing team!
This psychologist will work within the subspecialty team to enhance the quality of life and health outcomes of pediatric patients by addressing psychological factors that impact medical conditions.
Responsibilities will include the following:
- Conduct comprehensive consultations regarding psychological factors impacting acute and chronic medical conditions and provide diagnostic impressions and treatment recommendations to patients, families and the medical team.
- Provide individualized, evidence-based treatment to support patients in improving their coping, adherence, and adjustment to medical conditions and treatment.
- Monitor each patient’s progress and revise treatment plans and goals as appropriate.
- Provide collaborative care within an interdisciplinary team that includes physicians, nursing, social work, child life, art and music therapy, and rehabilitation therapists.
- Engage in program development with the support of psychology and pediatric leadership in order to build new referral pathways within our subspecialty space
- Flexibility in order to provide services across inpatient and outpatient settings as well as in-person and virtual modalities
Eligible candidates must have completed a doctorate program in psychology. Applicants must be licensed or license-eligible in Michigan. Fellowship training in pediatric psychology is preferred.
Clinical populations served include all pediatric and young adults treated within Company Children’s Hospital and Pediatric Subspecialty clinics. This position will have the opportunity to work with patients with a breadth of health psychology presentations across a number of pediatric subspecialties including cardiology, gastroenterology, pediatric surgery, and neurology. Age ranges extend from newborn to young adult. Individuals with expertise with medically complex children, adolescents, and young adults are encouraged to apply. Experience with CBT and ACT preferred. Company is the teaching hospital for Western Michigan University’s School of Medicine and therefore there are multiple opportunities for engagement in medical education with psychology and medical residents/students.

Clinical populations served include all pediatric and young adults diagnosed with cancer or chronic hematology conditions including sickle cell disease, hemophilia, bone marrow failure syndromes and anemia. Age range extends from newborn to young adult. Expertise with pediatric oncology populations is desired, though qualified candidates with experience with medically complex children, adolescents, and young adults are encouraged to apply. Experience with CBT, DBT, ACT, and FAP preferred. Our clinic is equipped with VR goggles appropriate for medical distraction and meditation. The Division of Pediatrics at Company Hospital often collaborates with Western Michigan University and collaborative work with the psychology program is highly encouraged including, but not limited to overseeing students in clinic conducting psychological evaluations.
Responsibilities will include the following:
- Conduct comprehensive psychosocial evaluations and formulate treatment plans according to needs of the pediatric and young adult cancer or hematology patient.
- Provide individualized therapy using a variety of directive, nondirective, and supportive therapy to help patients gain insight into personal issues, define treatment and life goals and assist in achieving these goals.
- Provide counseling with family members when appropriate.
- Collaborate and consult with other treatment team members as necessary to optimize treatment.
- Monitor each patient’s progress and revise treatment plans and goals as appropriate.
- Administer, score and interpret self-report questionnaires, diagnose mental disorders, and develop treatment plans as needed.
- Facilitate group counseling with families, patients, and/or family members (such as sibling support groups, teen oncology patient groups, sickle cell patient support groups).
