Online Technical Lead
As a Technical Lead for the Online team, your role is to own the multiplayer and online implementation in the engine. To secure the success of the game, you will work closely with design to mould the game vision to avoid pitfalls and leverage opportunities associated with first-party platforms and internal technology. The role has a major emphasis on architecture, implementation and communication.
Type of Position: Permanent, full-time.
Responsibilities:
The main and routine tasks of the Online Technical Lead are:
• Gathering & “negotiating” clear requirements and specifications for features
• Writing technical briefs
• Communicating and obtaining explicit agreement on technical brief and implementation plan for the feature from the Core target audience (tech artist/programmers/designers)
• Implementing critical/sensitive sections of major online features and components
• Support the team with online/networking technical know-how and assistance with implementation
• Providing best estimate of tasks required to deliver the features
• Supporting, challenging and building consensus on design directions/decisions to ensure they are viable from a multiplayer/online perspective.
You will be accountable for:
• Features complying to agreed design
• Delivering adequate documentation (confluence) with new systems/features (work with technical writer)
• Stability and performance (bandwidth, scalability, memory, CPU) of the features
• Support and evolution (operation, troubleshooting, tools, workflow, data reviews, etc.)
• Code quality: practice code/design reviews and share best practices
• Establish, communicate, measure and enforce network bandwidth budgets/guidelines.
Training:
• Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or computer Engineering or the equivalent in experience.
Experience:
• 5-10+ years’ experience of programming in C/C++.
• Minimum 5+ years’ experience in online and/or network programming for a specific console or in a specific area of expertise or equivalent.
• Experience of online communities, e-commerce, downloadable content, etc. would also be beneficial.
