Overview
The Merchandiser is responsible for developing and executing assortment plans and managing inventory at the store location level to maximize sales, inventory investment, and profit. This position directs the distribution of product to achieve sales, margin, and turnover goals across the departments and categories of responsibility. This role participates actively in preseason assortment and financial plans utilizing knowledge of store trends. The Merchandiser communicates with Store Operations and all Family of Businesses to identify trends and develop appropriate store assortment plans. This position executes special projects and assignments from the Head Merchandiser, the Director of Allocation, and/or the VP of Allocation.
Responsibilities
Assortment Allocation
• Develop location assortment plans by department, category, etc., based on trend, store profiles, Buyer product vision and strategic merchandise strategies in order to allocate the right product to the right place, in the right quantity and size, at the right time.
• Determine optimal units per sku by store by partnering with Buyer and Merchandise Manager with input from Head Merchandiser and/or Director of Allocation.
• Complete purchase orders including the selection of the optimal size percentages, breakdowns, DC FOB, appropriate order size and store count.
Trend Identification
• Identify geographic and market specific trends through statistical analysis, media publications, market visits, national and local sporting news, competitors and periodic product review with the Field Team.
• Compile and analyze product / location past performance data. Identify missed opportunities.
• Identify, communicate and capitalize on demographic and geographic opportunities through analysis and input from the Field Team.
In-Season Management
• Review weekly performance by style, category, etc. with Buyer, Merchandise Manager and Head Merchandiser against plan and forecast. Propose adjustments to on-order, consolidations and pricing action that will achieve goals.
• Create and maintain size profiles by store.
• Maintains optimum inventory levels by monitoring sales and sizing trends by store.
Associate Development
• Complete all necessary training for use of corporate merchandising systems and software programs.
• Pursue additional training as needed to enhance your knowledge and appropriate skill sets.
• Work with the Head Merchandiser to develop methodology of size writing, allocation and communication.
• Develop your individual professional business skills.
• Communicate with and develop the Field Teams knowledge of allocation strategy and methodology.
Qualifications
• Basic level skills of but not limited to Excel, DSS & Allocation systems.
• Intermediate to advanced understanding of mathematical calculations and measures.
• Experience within the retail industry or knowledge of the sports environment.
• Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy.
• Strong analytical, organizational and time management skills.
