Duties:
The Media Coordinator will ensure CNN standards for quality assurance are met as they pertain to journalistic, technical and cataloging protocols.
Monitor and assess the editorial and technical components of video, highlighting key soundbites and compelling visual elements for production.
Research video elements to compile font, dateline, source, content and other relevant metadata and enter that into the permanent record.
Write descriptive narratives and summaries of raw and cut video necessary for daily production needs, online publication and permanent archive.
Review produced material prior to air to ensure technical and editorial accuracy.
Coordinate with Assignment Desks, Show Teams, Bureaus, Affiliates and Field Crews to record and document all incoming and daily production video.
Manage server space and exercise editorial judgment in determining what items are killed, held or moved to permanent archive.
Create initial catalog record for physical media and enhance all catalog records with relevant keywords and metadata to assist in day-of and long-term production needs. Ingest field discs and other material shot by Photojournalists.
Enter all metadata for field ingests so the material can be permanently archived in the CNN Library.
This position works within Image+Sound's Production Services department, the central video production group for the CNN News Group, and serves clients in all of our television and online businesses.
Media Coordinators blend editorial and technical savvy to ensure video is available, alerted, and accurately noted for use across all of our production centers.
The information provided and actions taken by the Media Coordinator influence the overall production process.
Qualifications: - Basic understanding of internet video technology.
• Video production knowledge.
• Good visual sense & understanding of informational graphics.
• Strong news awareness & journalistic integrity.
• College degree, preferably journalism, internet or television-related education.
