Responsibilities
As a Materials Designer, you will be responsible for applying your design skills, original thinking, and technical experience in athletic design toward creating new materials and driving innovation to ultimately advance product performance and brand excellence. You will maintain open lines of communication and serve as the bridge between color/trend, design, and materials. You will illustrate seasonal trends by creating materials and treatment palettes for inclusion in the CMT booklet. In this role, you will research new processes, technologies, and treatments and keep abreast of new developments coming from suppliers by attending fairs, trade shows and presentations. You will complete regular inspiration shopping trips to identify materials from competitors. You will follow trends in magazines, other product categories, blogs, trade publications and more. You will produce reports to share the information you gather with cross-functional teams. You will be required to update the innovation wall on a monthly basis for the benefit of design and development. As an integral member of the materials team, you will help assess material needs. You will be tasked with creating seasonal material packages showcasing materials by price point. You will maintain the materials library and drive traffic into the library in an effort to raise awareness and foster communal idea sharing. You will be required to develop a partnership with the legal team to enhance knowledge of intellectual property. You will assist in the review of vendor performance and use this information to capitalize on opportunities for consolidation.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree plus 3-5 years of experience.
• Developing expertise in color and trend with knowledge of the design process.
• Proven record of establishing and maintaining collaborative working relationships across functions.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills required.
• Desire to work in a team environment.
• Must nurture idea sharing and innovation.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects at once.
• Domestic and international travel required.
