Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus five (5) years of experience in repair, testing, maintenance, or installation of electrical systems or equipment..
Licenses or Certifications:
Master Electrician License issued by the State of Texas.

Travel:
If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.
This position must travel between various locations as part of the regular job duties and individual will be required to drive a City of Austin vehicle.
Work Schedule:
- This position is categorized as Essential Personnel with the City of Austin. Essential staff are required to work during emergencies or bad weather if they are scheduled to work and, in some cases, when they are not scheduled. Essential employees ensure the continuance of key operations for the City of Austin.
- Work hours may include after hours, holidays, and weekends.
- Shifts may change according to departmental needs.
- Employee may be required to work additional hours outside of regular work schedule.
- Rotational on-call is required by the position.

Hours
Monday through Friday; 7:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
Hours may vary depending on work demands and business needs.
Evening, weekend and holiday work may be required.
Rotational on-call as required by the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
- Experience performing electrical building maintenance and traveling between multiple sites with a ranging customer base.
- Experience and knowledge of electrical industry codes, regulations, standards and practices such as the NEC, NEMA, NFPA-70E, NFPA-70B as well as City of Austin Building codes and ordinances.
- Experience drafting scopes of work for minor electrical construction, remodels, maintenance and repair.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management system (work order) software.
- Experience with purchasing and procuring equipment and/or materials for projects in a municipality or governmental entity.
- Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Ability to travel to more than one work location.

Company websites electrical wiring (i.e. strip insulation), twists wires together, solders, tapes, applies terminal caps, etc.
Company websitees various power saws (i.e. radial arm, skill, etc.), drills, buffers, grinders, sanders, electronic testing equipment, cable finding equipment, and equipment testers..
Company websites other trades with electrical problems.
Responsibilities- Supervision and/or Leadership Exercised:
May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluations, training, and guidance to others.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Knowledge of the City and National Electric Code.
- Knowledge of safety rules and procedures when working with energized electrical equipment.
- Knowledge of building codes applicable to level of construction.
- Knowledge of equipment tools and materials used in electrical maintenance and construction.
- Knowledge of City permitting process.
- Skill in the use of hand tools common to the electrical trade.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees, tenants, and the general public
