Overview and Responsibilities
The position will require that the individual support the Tax Reporting Director in being the primary liaison between the VMN business and financial reporting teams and the Company Corporate tax reporting and tax compliance teams. The position will be responsible for understanding the VMN accounting and reporting systems as well as manipulating them for purposes of gathering and providing the appropriate data to the Company Corporate Tax groups in a timely manner during the quarterly and annual financial reporting and tax compliance periods. The position will assist with review of legal entity accounting, especially with respect to intercompany charges and will interact with VMN Controllers to ensure timely submission of tax-related information. The position will also be required to perform/assist with special tax projects initiated by Company Corporate tax, such as accounting method reviews, tax basis balance sheets and other tax planning opportunities.
Responsibilities
• 45% - Coordination/Reporting of ALL federal and state quarterly and annual income tax requirements to Company Tax (e.g., IRC Section 181 analyses) on an actual and forecasted basis for both tax reporting and tax return purposes. The data will include general ledgers, book/tax differences, account roll forwards, transaction data, state apportionment information, etc.
• 15% - Provide the background and insight into VMN transactions including assisting the VMN team in properly recording the transaction on the applicable legal entity(s) and communicating effectively with the tax group about the applicable financial accounting implications
• 10%- Review of legal entity accounting for intercompany charges (e.g., Transfer Pricing) as well as how revenues and expenses are recorded/allocated to other domestic entities as applicable
• 10% - Assist with legal entity liquidations, provide support to maintain tax basis balance sheet analyses, assist with building interfaces between financial reporting data/systems to tax reporting systems, as applicable and other special tax projects as requested by Company Corporate tax
• 10%- Assist with Tax Accounting Methods, including background of how specific revenue and expense items are recorded for financial accounting purposes, as well as providing assistance with rolling forward new tax accounting methods that may be elected
• 10% - Assist with information gathering for federal and state tax audits and other VMN tax compliance not coordinated directly by Company Corporate tax
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• CPA
• 5 to 8 years of public/private accounting
• Operational and or consolidation accounting background and review
• Must have excellent intrapersonal skills; the ability to communicate effectively in writing
• and verbally. Must be comfortable to communicate via email, telephone and/or in person.
• Must be process oriented. Problem solver, self-starter and “finisher”, highly organized and deadline conscious. Must be able to handle significant transaction volume and diversity of assignments and projects.
• Must be a nimble individual; able to handle and manage change in a proactive way.
• Must have the ability to work well in groups via a collaboration method.
• Accountable personality who takes ownership for tasks/processes that he or she is responsible for.
• Must have exceptional computer skills and understand and have used accounting systems in the past.
Additional Qualifications
• Masters in Taxation a plus
• Entertainment/Media industry experience a plus
• Some “Big 4” experience is preferred
• Use of SAP a plus
