The Product Planning, Development, and Marketing Group includes all the functional areas that work together to develop instructional materials that meet current pedagogical and market needs for PreK-12. Content is developed for a wide range of media formats, including interactive digital media as well as print. Colleagues within PDM have varying expertise including the following: subject-matter expertise across all academic subject areas, design, art and photo management, production management, quality assurance, content engineering, and permissions and licensing.
Assessments within HMH are developed for a wide range of purported uses and we are involved in the entire assessment development cycle from initial idea to scoring and reporting. Colleagues within the team have varying expertise including the following: assessment design, sampling design, experimental and field test design, data collection and analyses, classical and item response theory analyses, adaptive testing design and analyses, calibration, equating, and scaling studies, reliability and validity studies, norming studies, standard setting design and workshops, scoring and reporting, and technical documentation.
The Manager of Assessment Development (Math and Science) works collaboratively with multiple internal and external stakeholders to translate customer and market requirements into product features; collaborate in new product planning that contributes to the strategic direction of the product line; define test components and operationalize product specifications; ensure development objectives are with the highest standards of accuracy, fairness, and appropriateness; and maximize psychometric quality, product utility, and financial profitability.
This position is responsible for managing the various aspects of test development and all publishing activities necessary to develop assessment instruments and solutions that meet rigorous professional and industry standards, accepting accountability for test and item quality, allocation of resources, training, project execution, responding to RFPs, contributing to business cases, and managing Lead Assessment Architects.
Requirements:
• BS/BA in relevant field (Math and Science).
• Minimum of 5 years educational assessment experience within Math and Science; test design, content development, and publishing
• Experience managing complex assessment projects.
• Experience supervising assessment project staff and/or experience as an Assessment Lead or Development Supervisor.
• At least 2 years of successful project management; evidence of successful completion/accomplishment of complex assignments; K-12 publishing experience
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills
Physical Requirements:
• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
• The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings
