Job Summary
The Groundsperson maintains the exterior of the campus, maintains and repairs college vehicles, and maintains and repairs grounds and fleet equipment.
Required Qualification(s)
1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. A valid class “B” CDL driver’s license with air brake endorsement is required or have the ability to obtain one within 12 months. Must have a clean driving record.
3. Possess a State of Illinois pesticide license or have the ability to obtain one within 12 months.
4. Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 70 lbs. on a frequent basis, and over 70 lbs. on an occasional basis with or without reasonable accommodations. Continuously walking or standing, frequent bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and twisting and occasionally sitting.
5. Ability to work on lifts or ladders, with or without reasonable accommodations.
6. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals pertaining to facilities and equipment installed and serviced.
7. Effective communication skills.
8. Practical and demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
9. Ability to effectively handle working on multiple projects simultaneously.
10. Ability to fully support the mission and values of the College
11. Proven ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Desired Qualification(s)
1. Mechanical repairs including small, auto, and diesel engines
2. Basic carpentry
3. Grounds care and maintenance.

Summary of Essential Functions
1. Maintain the exterior of the College, including lawn mowing, cultivating flowers, and trees, seeding and spraying.
2. Repair and maintain College vehicles.
3. Repair and maintain equipment such as lawnmowers, tractors, sprayers, etc.
4. Perform all snow removal on campus parking lots, roads, and sidewalks.
5. Prepare the athletic fields, including spraying, fertilizing, and striping.
6. Build equipment as needed such as picnic benches, barricades, etc.
7. Repair roadways as necessary.
8. Assist with the maintenance of the prairie area as needed.
9. Transport heavy equipment for other departments as needed.
10. Demonstrates solid commitment to our Q-DIALS Program and participates with Company goals and initiatives. Demonstrates the Service Excellence communication method towards customers and ensuring student success is at the forefront of all we do, while building the College’s reputation as a premier educational institution.
11. Follow all institution and regulatory policies, procedures and standards. Utilize self-appraisal to determine progress in meeting performance management system objectives and career goals.
12. Perform other related duties as assigned.
