The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics at the University of Virginia seeks a Grants and Contracts Specialist or Grants and Contracts Administrator for pre and post award activity. This position will report to the Administrative Director and work with a team of Administrative Personnel.
The University of Virginia Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics within the School of Medicine is seeking candidates for Grants and Contracts Specialist or Administrator.
The Grants and Contracts Specialist/Administrator collaborates with PIs to ensure proposals are complete and submitted to the Office of Grants and Contracts in compliance with their policies. They monitor the websites for OSP, OGC and the Office of Research for updated information and work with the central offices and PIs to ensure proposal acceptance. The Specialist/Administrator partners with faculty on grant budget reviews and assist with budget modifications if needed. They monitor personnel and OTPS expenses as they occur to ensure they conform to budget and federal costing principles. They initiate costing allocations, payroll accounting adjustments, journal entries, provide monthly reconciliation of accounts, assist with JIT requests, Progress Reports, and effort reporting in the new PAC System.
This is a hybrid position offering three day's in the office and two days off grounds.
Minimum Requirements:
Grants and Contracts Specialist:
Education: Associate's degree
Experience: At least two years of grant and contract experience. Two additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.
Licensure: None
Grants and Contracts Administrator:
Education: Bachelor's degree
Experience: At least three years of grant and contract experience. Four additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.
Licensure: Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong verbal and written communications skills
- Attention to detail and the ability to manager competing priorities
- Knowledge of Grants and Contracts systems including but not limited to: Oracle, Fastlane/Company website, ERA Commons, NIH Assist, Company website and Workspace, Proposal Central, Research Company and Research Company Powered by Huron.
- Candidates with Certified Research Administrator certificates are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of Company financial systems (Workday, Qliksense, and Qlikview)
Anticipated hiring range: $ 50,000-70,000 depending on qualifications.
The selected applicant will be required to complete a background check and health assessment per university policy.
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
