SpringerNature is looking for a freelance transfers coordinator. Duties include, ensuring that ‘transfers’ (=re-submission by an author after being rejected) happen, by handling manuscripts and journal selection. The transfers coordinator will handle manuscripts arriving at our Transfer Desk service from all Research Groups and consider destination journals in all Research Groups. The Transfers coordinator will work closely with both the Journal Editorial Office and publishing departments in executing these editorially-driven operations.
Responsibilities:
• Facilitate and support authors and editors in completing transfers between Company Nature journals
• Assess scope and novelty of new manuscripts, and find potential target journals in the Company Nature portfolio
• Handle transfer manuscripts through the procedure and provide an excellent author service
• Monitor quality, style, scientific validity and relevance of manuscripts, maintaining internal quality standards and agreed specifications and timeframes
• Provide timely, consistent and constructive feedback to authors and editors
• Communicate effectively with authors, and internal and external editors about all aspects of the transfer procedure, answer transfer-related queries
• Maintain transfer reports
• Develop knowledge of the Peer-Review-System Editorial Manager at configuration / administration level
• Monitor articles that are submitted to ensure that the process is conducted without delay, maintaining close contact with all internal and external parties involved (Editors, Reviewers, and Authors worldwide)
Skills/knowledge/experience:
• Excellent communication, commercial and influencing skills with proficiency in English
• Proven ability to correspond effectively with authors and internal/external editors
• Proven organizational ability and time management skills
• A high level of computer literacy (including Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Proven analytical/critical appraisal skills
• Educated to BSc / MSc level or equivalent experience
Desirable:
• Previous scientific editorial/publishing/editing experience or equivalent exposure.
• Academic experience
• Experience with the Editorial Manager submission system.
