Fraud
Fraud is dishonest behaviour with the intent to make a gain, or cause a loss to others, through false representations, abusing positions of trust or failing to disclose information. Fraud often involves organized crime with links to other serious criminal acts including terrorism, drug and people trafficking. In all cases, fraud typically results in financial loss, tarnished reputations and damaged communities, companies and individuals.
The role of the fraud risk team is to assess the risks we face and ensure strategies are put in place to mitigate these risks to protect our business, clients and customers without compromising the accessibility of our products and services. We can never fully stop fraud, but we can deter criminal elements by making the Bank a more resilient place to fraud attempts, which in turn gives our customers greater confidence to entrust their business with us
Overall purpose of role:
• Assist the BCUS Director of Fraud Risk with the overall management of fraud risk for the BCUS portfolio,
• Effective oversight and end to end ownership of assigned initiatives and responsibilities
• Identification and realization of fraud loss reduction and customer experience opportunities
• Representing BCUS Global Fraud Management in internal and industry forums when necessary
• Participating in the development and execution of the BCUS Fraud Strategy
• Ensuring continued optimization of the team’s capabilities, processes, technology, and resources
Key Accountabilities and Skills required:
• Lead activity and direct resources required to meet objectives and provide strong leadership to achieve the following:
◦ Contribute to a compelling vision, incorporating strategic goals and short/medium term priorities. Inspire and drive high performance in individuals and team, enabling each team member to understand his/her role in team success
◦ Ensure that strategies and policies are aligned with the BCUS strategic aims and are in compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
◦ Create/maintain accurate reporting of fraud performance and trends with recommended adjustments to controls and rules for assigned fraud loss types
◦ Identify the need for new/ updated tools and champion the integration into strategies. Work with the central fraud analytic teams as required, to commission tool development projects.
◦ Investigate complaint root cause and design and implement solutions to generate long-term, sustainable value for the business and the customers
◦ Liaise with Fraud Ops in country to agree on capacity planning and maintain optimal SLA
◦ Set clear, challenging and stretched objectives with a concrete focus on business results, behaviours and continual development. Monitor and review objectives with team members on a regular basis, providing the necessary support and resources.
◦ Act as a role model for leadership behaviours. Provide timely and constructive feedback and coaching to all team members, allowing them to grow and fulfil their potential. Proactively create and/or identify appropriate performance interventions for both high and low performers.
• Governance, Control and Risk
• Understand technical and regulatory matters. Responsible for the compliance and adherence within the Fraud strategy team
• Ensure governance, compliance risk and control are implemented and adhered to
• Work with central Governance team on all BIA fraud audits and Group conformance to ensure successful completion of review
• Work closely with Global Fraud Management to communicate and obtain approval on fraud strategy/performance and adherence to Group Policy
Risk and Control: All Barclays colleagues have to ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards
Your Skills and Qualifications will include
• Basic Qualifications
◦ Bachelor’s degree
◦ Minimum of 10 years in fraud for a financial services, payments or fintech company
◦ Proven leadership qualities & the ability to develop colleagues within the team.
◦ Proven record of success in strategy development, problem solving, leadership, governance, controls and business innovation required.
• Preferred Qualifications
◦ MBA
◦ Experience leading a Fraud Strategy team in a leading Fintech or Financial Institution
