SUMMARY OF POSITION
Warner Bros. Technical Solutions seeks a Big Data Dev Ops Engineer for our consumer intelligence platform and technologies. Warner Bros. engages with hundreds of millions of consumers around the world on web, mobile, television and movie screens with some of the most exciting properties in entertainment. The Warner Bros. Consumer Intelligence (WBCI) team aggregates and analyzes data generated by these platforms to provide insights and to inform digital advertising strategies for Warner Bros. Theatrical, Home Entertainment, Digital Entertainment Group and Interactive Entertainment divisions.
The Dev Ops Engineer’s primary role will be to enhance, secure and expand our consumer Big Data platform running on AWS. We are looking for someone who is not only passionate about AWS, analytics and security, but it also excited about rolling out new technologies to support multiple studio wide initiatives focused on learning more about our consumers and what they want.
The role will own the infrastructure and networking aspect of our AWS environment, ensuring that the system is available, secure and running like a well oiled machine. This will include implementing systems around deployment, managing and creating tools around operational processes, tuning for best performance and cost, and helping all applications utilize the rich set of AWS tooling to be best in class.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Proactively monitor, enhance and resolve issues related to the daily operations of the AWS infrastructure including EC2 Linux, Redshift and Data Pipeline. Provision new environments and establish/leverage automation technologies to produce stacks of AWS resources that can be deployed in an automated and repeatable fashion. You are the Superman/Supergirl of AWS!
Research and implement the latest security best practices as well as performing security checks on all aspects of the data process. This includes infrastructure configuration, security technologies, IAM and security policy configuration and management, NACLS as well as end user training.
Develop tools to automate data platform operational tasks (such as monitoring, reconciliation and alerts). Use the best that AWS has to offer, but create solutions where gaps exist.
Evaluate new technologies, learn about AWS and vendor tools that will improve the environment. The cloud is evolving quickly and you need to be on top of it.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or similar required.
• 2-3 years of relevant experience:
◦ Operating a data warehouse environment.
◦ Securing data and data solutions.
◦ Operating data solutions in a cloud environment.
◦ Big Data analytics, Data Warehouses, NoSQL, etc.
◦ Experience with AWS data technologies (S3, Redshift, Data Pipeline) and infrastructure.
◦ Experience managing multiple, simultaneous projects.
◦ Experience with data platforms and data security.
◦ Integrating security controls into new systems and applications.
◦ Developing monitoring tools using Python, Unix Shell Scripts, etc.
◦ Research product and technical data in order to recommend products, technologies, and processes for ongoing projects.
• Extensive experience leading the operations of a data warehouse.
• Demonstrated initiative to stay abreast of technology advancements.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and technologies.
• Passion for Information Security and minimum 2 years experience.
• Extensive experience writing SQL.
• Experience developing data applications with Python.
• Ability to analyze large amounts of data: facts, figures, and number crunching.
• Ability to communicate clearly and translate data into understandable documents.
• Ability to set and manage priorities judiciously.
• Understanding of commonly used protocols and services is required (e.g. SSL, TCP/UDP, WWW, FTP/SFTP, NTP, Telnet, NFS, SSH, LDAP, etc.).
• Experience with securing cloud-based solutions is preferred.
• Must possess the ability to meet deadlines and manage personnel in an efficient manner.
• Must be able to effectively manage a number of projects and priorities in parallel.
• Must be able to pay close attention to complex detail and understand written and oral instructions.
• Must be able to organize and schedule work effectively.
• Must be able to work well under time constraints.
• Must be able to handle multiple tasks with changing priorities, communicating changes in scope and schedule to all parties concerned.
• Must be able to work independently.
• Must be able to work flexible hours, including possible overtime, when necessary.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
• Experience with the following is a plus: JIRA, Confluence, GIT, Hadoop. Spark.
• Must be able to communicate effectively and tactfully with all levels of personnel, in person and on the telephone.
