Editorial Intern – Remodeling & ProSales
Company is seeking an Editorial Intern in the company’s Washington, D.C., headquarters. The intern would contribute to the Remodeling Group's publications: Remodeling and ProSales. Remodeling provides business tools for executives of full-service and specialty remodeling companies. ProSales covers the lumber and building material dealer and distribution industry.
The Editorial Intern should possess exceptional writing and editing skills and strong analytical skills. Meticulous attention to detail and factual accuracy are crucial skills in this role. Responsibilities will include compiling and writing news stories and profiles, researching story leads, writing, fact-checking, copyediting, and reviewing editorial submissions and correspondence.
This position will offer $15.00 per hour and will require 30 – 40 hours a week during our core business hours (M-F 8:30am – 5:30pm).
This individual should also have experience using blogs and social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. He/she may also be responsible for generating traffic, increase loyalty, encourage word of mouth promotion, and make connections with online audience.
Responsibilities will include:
• Writing succinct, intelligent, creative, customized, cogent copy—often drawn from written or online resources--that drives traffic to Company websites
• Writing short stories for print publications’ various departments (apx. 200 to 500 words)
• Analyzing data-heavy reports for conversion into stories, charts, and infographics
• Expanding content using online social media platforms
• Communicating with manufacturers to request photos; Writing photo captions
• Conducting web research to find interesting products and story ideas
• Community Management: managing day-to-day community management, audience engagement, page and content moderation, and general outreach
• Research: conducting basic research in order to engage the community and investigate any trending activities within the community
• Making calls to gather additional quotes for stories
• Conducting research and interviews, compiling art, managing special projects
• Attend news and art meetings
All qualified program participants will possess the following Skills, Education, and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, business, or a related field required. Recent college graduates preferred. College seniors will also be considered for the program.
• Ability to accurately understand scope of assigned projects, clients’ goals and requirements, and budgets through meetings, taking notes, and asking questions
• Demonstrated research, writing, and telephone skills
• Ability to adhere to all deadlines
• Excellent communications skills
• Strong sense of professionalism
• Ability to multi-task and manage projects and stories simultaneously
• Organized self-starter with a positive attitude
• Ability to read documents, find the important info, and summarize the information
• Adeptness using digital technologies to engage with immediate environment and initiate change
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, web browser use, and Google Docs
• Strong presence on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and LinkedIn
• Must display the maturity required to work in a casual, informal office setting
