The Statesman's Yearbook (SYB) team is part of the Major Reference Works publishing department of Company Nature.
The Statesman's Yearbook, containing political, economic and social information on all the countries of the world, has been published annually for 153 years, and is available in both print and online versions.
The current vacancy is for the role of Editorial Assistant. The Editorial Assistant will report to the Publisher, and will be responsible for assisting in the research, writing and updating of material for the Statesman’s Yearbook (SYB).
Responsibilities
• Emailing statistical offices and government departments to obtain updates to existing entries in the Statesman’s Yearbook.
• Making further contact with the statistical offices or organizations for clarification of information when necessary.
• Maintaining accurate details of responses received on a spreadsheet and in a content management system.
• Assisting with entry of updates received as a result of responses onto a content management system and in Word documents.
• Updating entries in individual fields from United Nations publications and similar print and online sources.
• Maintaining a consistent house style in the writing of entries.
• Assisting in keeping paper files of updated information in good order.
• Assisting in other aspects of SYB work at different times of the year as and when necessary
• The role is likely to evolve and develop with new challenges within a year of taking up this position.
Skills/knowledge
• Educated to a degree level
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
• Excellent organisational skills with an ability to balance priorities
• Ability to work unsupervised and to use own initiative
• Self-motivated with a calm, professional approach and a can-do attitude
• Experience of academic reference publishing preferred
