We are currently seeking an Editorial Assistant to provide administrative and editorial support to the William Morrow and Harper Voyager imprints. In this role you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of commercial genres.
Responsibilities:
• Provides editorial support to an Executive Editor/Director of Editorial Development.
• Under supervision, writes first drafts of editorial materials, including fact sheets, descriptive copy, and revised catalogue copy.
• Performs all administrative duties for titles.
• Assists in maintaining relationships with authors, agents, department staff and corporate management.
• May, under supervision, aid in the acquisitions process by reading and evaluating submissions, writing reader reports, and researching author track records.
• Learns proficiency of office systems and prepares contract requests, profit and loss statements, production memos, transmittal forms, payment requests, orders author copies, tracks author photos.
• Formats and transmits final manuscripts to Managing Editorial department, including proper presentation of copyright materials, art logs, and special instructions from author or editor.
• Prepares any ancillary materials for manuscripts, including reading group guides, Q&A’s and other materials.
Qualifications:
• Prior publishing internship experience
• 4 year college degree or equivalent work experience
• Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively
• Excellent communication skills
• Exceptional writing skills
• A fast reader
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• A strong interest in commercial fiction, including science fiction and fantasy
