We are looking for a talented individual to provide key administrative support to the in-house Senior Editor of the Clinical Medicine book program. Results driven, you will enjoy working under your own initiative and have excellent communications skills with a superb eye for detail. This role is a great opportunity that will allow the successful candidate to learn about the Editorial process.
Responsibilities
• Keeping in regular contact with contracted authors and alerting the Editor to any delays problems etc. in order to forward plan for the year and through effective project management, ensure manuscript delivery targets are met
• Liaison with Production over schedules etc., tracking book progress, approving covers, checking frontmatter proofs
• Doing all necessary correspondence, including mail merges for the Editor and general secretarial duties including file maintenance and filing
• Advising and updating the Editor on the current status of established projects (both at pre and post-contract stage)
• Prepare contracts, distribute and chase those outstanding
• Setting up projects with Developmental Editors and hosting teleconference calls on behalf of the editor
• Maintaining database records
• Preparing documentation
• Sending material out for review and chasing responses
• Collating relevant material for pre-contract and pre-production meetings
• Research (conferences, reviewers etc)
• Arranging visits (including making appointments, booking flights, arranging accommodation and preparing itinerary) for the Editor
• Writing copy for approval for the Editor

Essential

• Computer literacy – Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word and Excel

• Able to work on own initiative
• Willingness to take on additional responsibility as required
Desirable
• Familiarity with medical/scientific terminology
• Familiarity with editorial processes
• Interest in science and medical publishing
