Company is seeking an Editorial Assistant to help manage the production of local market content for both the Travel and Real Estate sections of its website. This is a six-month temporary position and is based out of our Washington, D.C., office located in Georgetown.
Success for the position
The Travel and Real Estate sections of Company help people confidently make decisions about their next vacations and their next moves. Success for the Local Content Editor means working with a network of contributing writers to produce high-quality advice content that helps our readers make smart decisions about planning a vacation or buying and selling a home. This includes building upon existing article ideas, developing new story concepts and helping manage freelance writers in local markets across the United States.
Who we are looking for
The best person for this job will be passionate about uncovering housing price trends in Boston, identifying the best brunch spots in Los Angeles and tracking down the most family-friendly hotels in New York City. The best person for this job will have no problem working with a steady volume of content and following agreed-upon formats. He or she must also have the creativity and desire to improve upon these ideas. The ideal candidate is innovative when it comes to story development, steadfast about deadlines, enthusiastic about quality control and eager to work alongside dedicated, hardworking teams. This person is also very detail-oriented and organized.
Responsibilities
Here are the responsibilities we associate with the Editorial Assistant position:
• Development and management of editorial calendars
• Editing of stories for accuracy, consistency, formatting and search engine optimization (SEO)
• Implementing strategic linking within stories
• Occasionally editing product profiles for accuracy
• Collecting visual assets for stories
• Building and maintaining relationships with local experts and featured establishments to promote content
• Working with our social media team to publicize stories
Qualifications
• 3+ years of professional experience in writing and editing
• Expertise and prior knowledge of AP Style
• Experience working with online content management systems
• Experience with project management a plus
• Moderate knowledge of best SEO practices
• Experience using analytics tools, such as Google Analytics, Omniture and/or Company website a plus
• Experience working with visual optimizations – such as photo galleries, infographics and charts – a plus
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to meet deadlines and be extremely detail-oriented
