Company Nature, a leader in scientific publishing, seeks an experienced Editorial Administration Managerfor its Editorial Team.
This exciting position will report to the Head of Editorial Administration and will be responsible for directly line managing a team of Editorial Assistants for a portfolio of Nature Research Journals. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the editorial administration processes, supporting the standardization of workflows, improved efficiencies, data collection, and support Authors, Editors, and Reviewers.
Key Responsibilities:
• Recruiting, motivating, managing and appraising Editorial Assistants, reviewing progress against objectives set with the input of the Editors for their department, meeting with each team member regularly, while ensuring they are in alignment with the Editorial Administration Centre of Excellence.
• Ensuring that the career development needs of the Editorial Assistants are met.
• Monitoring workloads, ensuring an even spread amongst the team, and arranging and providing team cover during periods of absence, whilst ensuring the flow of manuscripts from submission to acceptance through the MTS (manuscript tracking system) is not delayed
• Managing the flow of manuscripts from submission to acceptance through the manuscript tracking system (MTS) – performing quality checks on manuscripts and ensuring all legal forms are collected and stored. Providing MTS support when needed, and escalating issues when needed.
• Suggesting and implementing improvements with regards to customer services to all our customers (Authors, Reviewers, Editors and Colleagues) specifically concerning systems workflows and best practice.
• Ensuring the team is resourced and structured appropriately.
• Assisting with editorial reports and journal statistics
• Assisting with other ad hoc tasks associated within the Editorial Administration Centre of Excellence.
Experience:
• In-depth knowledge of online and print STM journals is essential
• Line management experience is preferred
• Understanding team structures and supporting team growth to support business developments
• Good written and verbal communication skills are essential
• The ability to work both individually and as part of a larger team
• Strong interpersonal skills are essential
• Previous experience within a STM Publishing Editorial environment is essential
• Bachelor’s Degree
