Director, Visual Merchandising (Cluster Brands), Travel Retail APAC
Description
The Position
The Travel Retail Business is seeking an experienced individual to lead our Cluster Brands VM Teams.
This role leads with a multi-disciplinary design approach, which involves communication, partnership, design, education and executions to meet the successes of our key brands and also new acceleration brands. The role will require agility to handle a variety of design management/execution discussions, while being able to deep dive where needed to drive brand-led solutions.
The Role & Responsibilities
This is a senior position with a matrix reporting of VM Managers & VM Executives and will require extensive width in people management. The incumbent needs to be exemplary in people management of creative talent with fairly diverse styles and performance. It is crucial that the incumbent can coach for performance and drive results in a fast moving and ever-changing environment. A working knowledge of partnering with a NY TR VM brands & Regional brand marketing teams requires working in different time zones. To further leverage this Brand design expertise, he/she will partner to deliver Global Corporate initiatives in product distortion. He/she will also need to ensure the closing of execution details to ensure shopper changes are captured.
Working with the base Design VM templates, incumbent must drive teams towards strong APAC focus on exciting shoppers and consumers of the brands at every location. The ability to innovate on these executions within brand guidelines and drive scalability of displays whilst on leveraging existing corporate display elements will be important.
Other activity includes, the new brand rollouts, which requires regional adaptation of new branded Visual Merchandising elements. It is critical to ensure that these are delivered on time to meet retailer committed opening timings.
The incumbent is to lead projects by completely reviewing and driving the discussion, as she/he has to align with key stakeholders to meet the deliverables whilst meeting the results.
She/He has to establish new site VM requirements, review brand established VM designs and share potential VM solutions to the business; to provide answer on brand VM differentiation with regional shopper insights’ input
She/He will lead the daily activity to review recommendations, adaptations and updates of regional brand-led Visual Merchandising templates to meet site constraints and then work with each Brand Head to drive innovation within each of the templates for the region.
She/He will support project communication where needed, across selected stakeholders; regional shop-fitters, project managers, corporate store designers, NY visual merchandising teams, indirect procurement, material suppliers and occasionally retailers.
Additional corporate activity in omni-channel development in VM enhancements of digital is required, technology in the VM design is a significant part of the innovation of retail work, to be seamlessly & ergonomically included within future sites. This includes executing existing strategies in centralised screen executions.
The main key stakeholders are the Regional SDVM Director and the Brand Regional Directors.
This role is based in Singapore and is located within the Travel Retail Asia Pacific office.
This role reports to the APAC SDVM Director and has up to 7 direct VM reportees.
Qualifications
The Requirements
• A BA/MA graduate in Industrial Design or Visual Communication.
• With min experience of 15~18 years in Branded/Interior/Retail Architecture environments in beauty/fashion & brands.
• Possess strong leadership skills in retail design, brand communication, design development & project management/procurement understanding.
• A strong understanding/interest in the retail industry of Fashion/Cosmetics/Fragrances & tobacco/wines/spirits.
• High proficiency in Computer skills, Studio Max, AutoCad, Vectorworks, Cinema 4D, Adobe Suite, would be essential.
• A highly integrated individual with strong passion to deliver design accuracy, educate on partnering & partnerships to close design development.
• Experience working in regional/global organisations, ability to communicate & multi-task with different departments to execute the completion of projects.
• Good command of both written & spoken English & Mandarin is necessary.
• Experience in a market leading beauty brand with strong acumen on the fundamentals of brand design is a must.
• Extensive network & knowledge of shopfitters, retailers & procurement processes will be highly advantageous to the success of this role.
• Previous experiences working in, VM supplier management, studio-based VM design development, VM project management & brand design communication is a key enabler to the success of this role.
• Regional travel is required at approximately 20 ~ 40%.
