Led by our Chief Investment Officer, the Investment Department manages a consolidated investment portfolio of nearly $75 billion and consists of investment professionals focused on portfolio management, risk management, asset management, derivatives, operations, finance and accounting functions.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Director, Trader will report to the Head of Trading and will focus on high yield credit. This position will work closely with other asset sector traders, and the Credit Research, Portfolio and Risk Management teams to develop key portfolio objectives and a tactical strategy for the asset class. This position has high visibility and is expected to take the lead on asset management initiatives, execute corporate trades, monitor markets, follow macro trends, generate trade ideas, and be very vocal in her/his recommendations.
The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of credit trading and will be able to look across other asset classes to help identify relative value. The individual in this position must display a track record of explicit buy and sell recommendations and the rationale behind them. We are looking for candidates who are independent thinking self-starters with a passion for fixed income markets. While the focus is on high yield credit, knowledge of other fixed income asset classes is highly preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Partner with Investments leadership on investments strategy, asset allocation and exposure management
• Source new issue and secondary bonds for investment and execute trades
• Support additional asset class trading responsibilities including back-up for other traders
• Training and mentoring Trading and Investments team members
• Present view and discuss markets in morning market review meetings, weekly and monthly reviews
• Lead discussions on trends and their impact to both our portfolios and to Company
• Develop and frame knowledge of Company’s portfolios, parameters, and existing holdings to make decisions and recommendations to best fit needs of portfolios
• Follow broad market movements, the economy, and asset class trends to maintain educated opinions on relative value, views on credit trends and market outlook
• Closely follow all market changes including policy, regulatory, and market practices, as well as educate Investments team on impact to portfolio and general markets
• Make clear allocation recommendations and promote relative value themes as appropriate across Investments
• Build cross-functional relationships while negotiating priorities and gain support from key stakeholders
• Partner across Investment teams to define theme and structure for quarterly sector performance reviews for Investments leadership
• Maintain strong relationships with the “Street” and work to maintain and improve Company standing with outside participants
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, or related area(s) of study
• Minimum of 7 to 10 years trading/asset management experience in Investments for an insurance company or other major institutional investors
• Deep knowledge of credit; should be able to fully comprehend the impact of investment decisions on the portfolio
• Experience working with analytical tools such as Bloomberg, BlackRock Solutions, etc.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong Excel skills
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced, changing environment
• Ability to influence decision-making
• Ability to quickly assess information and apply
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• MBA, advanced degree or CFA
• Knowledge and experience with other asset classes
