Director, Software Engineering - EC2 Platform Launch & Quality
DESCRIPTION
More than any other service, when people talk about the cloud they are talking about EC2, the compute engine of AWS. We're looking for a quality-obsessed senior leader to coordinate building new EC2 instance types. Your team will specify these platforms, and make sure all the pieces come together, and then make sure that the quality is great both before and after launch. Your teams will diagnose issues, and deploy the fixes, and keep the entire system secure. You must be deeply technical, an expert cat-herder, obsessed with quality, and a seasoned leader who can build and manage diverse and high passionate teams.
One of the key responsibilities of this team is to test new instances and make sure that all of the pieces work well together. You're considered an expert in test automation for highly technical systems. Our scale demands that we automate this process as much as possible; you’ll run the team that deploys updates to running systems, whether it’s to fix an urgent security issue, or a critical bug. And finally, you’ll drive the overall coordination of new instances – your team will build the detailed specifications, and then work with teams that supply components to make sure that everything we need is delivered on time and assembled into a great product for our customers. As much as possible, you’ll automate all of these tasks, driving the team to higher levels of efficiency and scale as we continue to grow exponentially.
Our ideal candidate is deeply technical with knowledge of operating systems or hypervisor development or related technical areas such as databases, storage or networking. You should be an expert in test automation – ensuring our new instances are of the highest quality while balancing our need to move quickly. Above that, your demonstrated experience as a notable people leader is what will escalate your success with AWS - you will hire effectively, inspire and grow both managers and ICs with the a vision to make EC2 good to great.
