Description
The Director acts as the accountable technology delivery lead in support of the North American Retail Payments Line of Business (LOB) inclusive of the PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry – Data Security Standard) enterprise program. The Director is accountable for on-time, on-budget delivery of quality solutions which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and support of applications to ensure alignment with IT strategies and adherence to relevant enterprise standards.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Identifies opportunities and provides recommendations to senior management, executives and business partners. This may involve creating a common framework or introducing new technologies, which ultimately contributes to new product/service introduction, improved efficiency, cost reduction, application stability, accessibility, etc.
• Monitors external environment and payment/card industry trends to ensure ongoing improvements in technical and operational effectiveness to allow the flexibility to compete while maintaining cost competitiveness
• Responsible for delivery of effective vendor relationships; including service/product delivery, VM governance, performance management, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Leads and oversees large transformations and complex technology programs within the portfolio to ensure successful on-time and on-budget delivery of important bank initiatives and priorities
• Oversees the completion of project deliverables by providing appropriate approvals, guidance, and resources for the development teams. This helps ensure optimal quality of the applications while delivering a solution that is aligned with the business strategy.
• Provides solutions to complex technical issues to ensure the optimal solution is recommended to the Technology leadership and business partners, and communicates complex technical strategies and design to senior management, executives, and business partners to gain their support and/or approval of the recommended approach
• Reviews, approves, and provides technical expert guidance on the technology solution and application architecture (i.e., as prepared by the Senior Business Consultant and/or Senior Business Technology Specialist), to ensure that they are aligned with Enterprise standards and that they are appropriate in satisfying the technical strategy and design for the business partners
• Prioritizes and optimizes development teams’ activities for multiple initiatives of varying complexity in order to meet business partner demands and priorities while maintaining defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and technical stewardship over platform applications
• Creates proper planning process (e.g., development of a Business Continuity Plan) to ensure performance, availability, and problem recovery of platform applications in achieving the agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
• Aligns with Shared Services on the use of development, testing, and implementation tools and practices, as well as the engagement of project management in delivery activities
• Liaises with third party vendors on contract negotiations and understands and validates the vendor technical architectures to ensure they are aligned with the Enterprise standards or, at minimum, are well understood by employees and have the necessary approvals from governing bodies within the Enterprise
• Provides support to project delivery, and interacts and collaborates with team members and other departments when appropriate, to define accountabilities, communicate the status of work items, and discuss barriers to the delivery of work
• Collaborates with Account Managers in creating, managing, and overseeing the investment plan and manages financials to ensure that they fall within the approved fiscal year plan
• Provides managerial leadership to managers, staff, Senior Business Consultants, and Senior Business Technology Specialists, which includes structuring development teams, holding regular two-way meetings, setting context, building staff development plans, providing feedback on performance evaluations, mentoring, and coaching, in order to create and maintain high- performing teams
Qualifications
Knowledge:
• Experienced in or strong working knowledge of Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard & Payment Application Data Security Standard (PCI, PA-DSS); Certifications in this area are viewed as an advantage
• Experienced in or strong working knowledge of credit card operations
• Possesses a university degree/college diploma in applied technologies and/or 12+ years experience in state-of-the-art financial application development with expert business knowledge
• Possesses expert project management experience
• Possesses extensive practical experience in application development and/or business partner solution delivery
• Demonstrates expert knowledge of design and analysis methodology and application development processes from both an industry and BMO perspective
• Exhibits expert understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) (including emerging trends in DevOps), Quality Assurance requirements, and software development control and release procedures
• Demonstrates expert understanding of emerging technologies and industry directions
