Director of Training Programs
Job Details
This senior leadership position with the Bates Dance Festival (BDF) is one of two full-time year-round positions that directs BDF. The Director of Training Programs provides creative, strategic, organizational and financial oversight of the three BDF Training Programs as well as overseeing part-time and seasonal part-time and season communications, operations, and administrative staff for all aspects of the Training Programs. Areas of particular emphasis include the selection and contracting of faculty members, recruitment of students, adjudicating student applications (400+/year), communicating with applicants and their families, and creating and implementing administrative systems. Additional responsibilities include communicating and collaborating with the Festival Director to support faculty, staff, visiting artists, and student needs.
Job Duties:
Development of Training Programs:
- Works in concert with the Festival Director to determine pedagogy and practice within the Training Programs
- Recruits new faculty
- Assists the Festival Director in developing new programmatic structure to facilitate increased enrollment
Student Recruitment and Admissions:
- develops and maintains relationships w/local schools and organizations to recruit students
- recruits students at 5-10 annual regional high school and college dance festivals and other recruitment events
- develops strategic recruitment plan and budget
- determines appropriate class placement and manages course enrollment
- manages web-based registration materials
Staff Supervision Responsibilities:
- trains and supervises administrative interns
- oversees Admissions/Operations Manager
- directs faculty for Young Dancers and Professional Training Program and oversees the Youth Arts Program Directors
Program Management:
- creates orientation materials for all faculty, staff, and students
- leads orientation for faculty, students, and interns
- leads weekly faculty meetings during the festival, and maintains the integrity and ethics of the programmatic pedagogy
- is a consistent daily presence on campus for the entirety of the festival
Development and Marketing:
- contributes to copy for brochures, solicitation letters, and performance programs
Office Management:
- oversees communication strategy with all prospective students, their families, and faculty
- interfaces with the College Dance program staff and students
- nurtures positive relationships with college and other professional colleagues, artists, and students
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
- BA or BFA in Dance, Arts Administration, Education, or related field
Experience
- 7+ years of professional leadership experience
Skills and Knowledge
- Commitment to equity and inclusion, and serving the needs of a culturally and educationally diverse community
- Ability to teach an advanced level technical dance class in a contemporary form
- Knowledge of the professional dance and education fields
- Knowledge of data management, Word, Excel, Google Suite
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to multitask, work independently, and self-motivate
