Job Description:
Director of Product, Design, and Technology Operations for WSJ
Background
This role also plays an important part in helping the WSJ CTO & team ensure that Company Technology best practices are incorporated into WSJ and that we are aligned with Company Tech overall.
This job is comprised of multiple roles and is an essential part of the WSJ product, design, and tech senior management team, which includes 1. chief product & tech officer, 2. head of product, 3. head of design, 4. head of engineering, and 5. head of operations/portfolio/process.
Roles, Responsibilities, and Areas of Focus
Budgets
Responsible (in close collaboration with Company Technology team budget specialist) for all WSJ product, design, and engineering budget processes including preparation of annual team budget, monthly reviews of budget and forecast, and regular reporting on budget status from the WSJ CTO to various interested parties.
Project Management of Work Being Done By WSJ Tech Leadership Team
The WSJ CTO, head of product, head of design, and head of engineering also have makers work to do. For example: creating product, design, and tech roadmaps; authoring and updating vision & mission documents; preparing strategy presentations; budget presentations; planning work, etc. All this work would immensely benefit from being project managed by a senior professional project manager who holds the WSJ CTO, head of product, head of design, and head of engineering accountable for their deliverables and helps them deliver them in time and with high quality.
WSJ Aspects of Vendor Management
Owns all WSJ aspects of managing vendor relationships in alignment with Company technology group standards. Vets potential vendors when seeking a solution for the team. Reviews and approves all monthly invoices for WSJ. Works with vendors on all SOW processes pertaining to WSJ. Oversees vendor work related to WSJ to ensure that SOWs are being aligned to and delivered upon. Makes sure all vendor issues and details are shared with DJ Tech.
Status Reporting
Assists WSJ Product Head in collection of all week status report information and in the creation and distribution of all weekly and monthly project status executive summary reports for all WSJ projects.
Organizational Management
Within the WSJ organization, responsible for maintaining organization chart, opening up new hiring requisitions, and works with overall DJ Tech team and HR to ensure that all high priority roles are filled as soon as possible.
Support & Backup for WSJ Tech & Product Senior Management Team
Provide support to and occasionally be backup for the WSJ senior tech, product, and design team.
Organizational Strategy
Assists WSJ senior product, design, and tech team in drafting all organizational strategy docs and presentations for both internal and external audiences. Assists in recruiting new members of the team, including drafting job descriptions, req opening, candidate vetting and first round interviews.
Agile/Process Evangelist
In close collaboration with Company technology (to ensure that corporate standards are being represented) works closely with WSJ technology senior management team in pushing for adoption of industry best practice software delivery methodologies.
Portfolio Management
Maintains full portfolio listing of all work for WSJ. Works with WSJ product owners and project managers on an ongoing basis to update portfolio with accurate information to be used for follow up and intervention where necessary.
Creation and management of a current project dashboard for all WSJ projects.
Implementation of a roadmapping tool in collaboration with DJ Technology & Product. Keep roadmaps current and visible in collaboration with WSJ products.
Publish a competitive analysis weekly report in collaboration with WSJ project managers.
Create documents and presentations in collaboration with WSJ product, tech, and design team for the above.
