The Director of Planning will play a key role within the Planning and Allocation team. This individual will develop and deliver Corporate Financial Plans by strategically driving metrics including sales, margin, turn and GMROI for a Division and/or Business Channel for current and future seasons.
This role will construct and collaborate with the Sr. Director of Planning and Director of Merchandising development of the strategic promotional calendar.
Responsibilities:
Develop Merchandise Plans
• At the channel/division level: develop fiscal sales, margin, and receipt plans in both dollars and units
• Build and maintain a strategic promotional calendar through a collaborative effort with Merchandising and Marketing that consistently maximize opportunities and minimize risks to plan
• Conduct a quarterly hindsight and detailed review of historical performance, providing recommendations and guidance for future plans
Weekly Business Management
• Identify risks and opportunities based on analytical observations and provide recommendations to deliver overall company financial objectives
• Reforecast the business and provide inventory management recommendations for Channel
• Develop merchandising and financial strategies and present to cross-functional team and senior management
Inventory Management
• Provide Inventory Management recommendations through forecast and reforecast of the business channels
• Guide the team in strategically driving the business to maximize sales and margin, and optimize inventory
• Partner with Planning & Allocation counterparts to accurately maximize inventory across the brand channels
Owner of the Strategic Forecast Review (SFR)
• Lead and direct the strategic forecast review meeting
• Gather and analyze data
• Present current and future business on a rolling calendar approach
• Highlight risks and opportunities with recommendations to deliver overall company financial objectives
• Make recommendations based on projections (120 days out) in partnership with Planning Team, Merchant and Manager of Allocation
• Lead the reconciliation process between tops down and bottoms up by both category and channel
Assortment Planning & Assortment Planning Prep
• Validate receipt plan
• Partner with merchant to develop the assortment and to reconcile
• Lead and facilitate buy finalization meeting with merchant
• Review and reconcile buy with Manager of Allocation to ensure flawless execution
Managing and Developing Talent
• Partner effectively with merchants and cross-functional teams
• Train, develop and retain direct reports
• Provide role clarity to direct reports
• Partner with leadership to develop individual goals for direct reports
• Assess and develop talent to ensure succession planning for team
Qualifications:
• Bachelors Degree required
• Minimum 6 years of inventory, planning and allocation experience; 8 or more years of total work experience
• Well-versed in allocation systems, as well as advanced Microsoft windows applications
• Ability to present and recommend strategies and build a business case
• Strong attention to detail
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills including presenting complex material in an organized and compelling manner
• Strategic forecasting for a multi-dimensional business
• Proven ability to problem solve
• Ability to influence and negotiate at a variety of levels
• Ability to lead an develop a team of 1-2 direct reports
• Ability to show increased additional areas of accountability successfully managed
• Visual acuity
• Sit for extended periods of time in one position
• ability to stand and maintain mobility for long period of time during a fit session
• Possess normal manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
• Ability to lift an adult dress form when adding or removing a garment (35lbs)
