The Director of Merchandising is responsible for establishing merchandising objectives, targets and goals to ensure that products are brought to market in a timely manner in accordance with the line plans and calendars.
Duties:
• Drives concept process with Design, coordinates with all functional areas and participates in all development meetings and line reviews.
• Develops and implements product strategies and line plans.
• Develops new product categories and business opportunities in partnership with Sales.
• Initiates communication for specific product needs and partners with Design and Product Development for sourcing on needs, costing, timing and action calendars, and quality and production schedule.
• Presents products lines and strategies at sales meetings and provide sales with proper tools with which to sell the line.
• Collaborates with Sales and Production to achieve target retail price and margins.
• Analyzes history of best/ worst sellers, monitor sell in, sell through, market acceptance and post mortem by using SKU/collection and communicate to Design team, PD and sales to maximize best sellers.
• Familiar with competitive marketplace and understand upcoming products trends.
• Stays abreast of fashion trends as they relate to all product lines and communicates competitor’s trend information and customer in sights to Design and Sales teams as needed.
• Partners with Sales in creation of seasonal line plans. Works closely with Design in implementing line plan accordingly.
• Plans budgets and presents sales forecasts and figures for new ranges.
• Monitors slow sellers and taking action to reduce prices or set promotions as necessary.
• Analyzes previous season's sales and reporting on the current season's lines.
• Analyzes the change of the market trends properly.
• Responsible for the conceptualization of a fashion line for the target consumer and for the current season.
Skills/Qualifications:
• Minimum of 10 years in retail merchandising or buying experience with recognized brands
• Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising or Business Administration
• Highly strategic withy elevated problem solving skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proven ability to direct a team
• Strong leadership and influencing skills
• Positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills
• Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel Proficient
