The World Golf Hall of Fame is searching for an experienced Director of Communications who is passionate and knowledgeable about the game of golf. Under the direction of the President, the Director of Communications is responsible for the strategic development, planning and execution of the World Golf Hall of Fame & Museum communications activities. The director will oversee communications programs including, creating original content, message development, public and media relations, building social media platforms and developing distribution channels. The goal of the communications efforts and initiatives is to elevate worldwide awareness of the Hall of Fame and continue to position the institution as a trusted resource within the game of golf.
Qualified candidates will have the following:
• This position requires a four year degree in public relations, communications, and journalism from an accredited college or university.
• The individual must have at least five years of progressively responsible public relations work experience and must be able to produce and evaluate professional public relations work.
• This position requires an individual that must be able to operate a PC and have software application skill and ability.
• The individual should be able to exhibit professional public relations samples and have work experience in public relations in a similar enterprise.
• Prefer an individual with an advanced degree (MBA or MA, MS) in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or the equivalent in related work experience.
• Prefer an individual with prior media and press business relationships who is knowledgeable as a spokesperson for the employing body.
• An individual who has previous work experience in a highly visible enterprise as a spokesperson is preferred.
• Prefer an individual who has work experience in a service industry on a national and international level.
• Prefer an individual who is knowledgeable about the game of golf.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and execute communications strategies that support the institutions’ goals and objectives and to enhance the Hall of Fame’s brand and strategic plan. Focus should include building and cultivating relationships within the golf, tourism and PR communities.
• Research, develop and execute public relations plans that support the Hall of Fame’s Strategic Plan, including the Induction Ceremony and process for Induction.
• Oversee the development and distribution of original content for the Hall of Fame and IMAX Theater.
• Lead communications initiatives with key partners, including the Hall of Fame’s Board organizations, the Hall’s Advisory Board, Golf Channel, Rolex and the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation.
• Develop on-going strategies and communication plans to support local PR efforts.
• Oversee and seek opportunities to further develop the Hall of Fame’s digital strategy, including social media efforts, websites, mobile, and apps.
• Seek opportunities to garner media exposure for the Hall of Fame and IMAX Theater through relationships with golf and non-golf companies and organizations.
• Supervise the communications staff and the public relations agency relationship, if applicable.
• Manage the Hall of Fame Induction communication process, including digital messaging.
• Oversee the creation and writing for Hall of Fame’s newsletter, The Tower.
• Oversee and assist with Communications department’s efforts to prepare and distribute news releases, photographs, videos and related information to media throughout the year.
• Research and create opportunities to build awareness for the Hall of Fame through speaking presentations and forums with Hall of Fame executive(s).
• Oversee and assist with public relations efforts for World Golf Village Associates, including development and execution of annual PR plan.
• Assist President with internal communications and procedures for the Hall of Fame and Company.
• Perform all required communications work as needed and directed by the President.
