Company is seeking a creative and visionary Director of Business Development and Strategic Initiatives who will lead a cross functional team responsible for driving new business ventures and opportunities for Company. The Director of Business Development and Strategic Initiatives will help lead key strategic projects and analyses, identify opportunities for Company’s long-term growth, secure buy-in from Company and Rakuten executives and drive implementation. From leading Company’s Original Production strategy to developing Company’s nascent MCN initiative to forging new avenues of monetization from our vast and engaged community of fans, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to have a massive impact on a rapidly growing company. Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Propose, analyze and vet new business initiatives and make recommendations to executives
• Create processes for integration of new business lines into existing operations
• Lead original content, co-production and production investment initiatives including forging partnerships across Asia and Hollywood with studios, investment funds, writers, etc.
• Positioning Company’s nascent MCN initiative for success by establishing processes for new creator acquisition, onboarding and monetization.
• Secure innovative distribution partnerships and syndication opportunities including Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, OEMs, wireless carriers, etc.
This is a multi-faceted role where strong knowledge of the product and media market is expected. Besides a strong work ethic and a team-oriented personality, members of our team display creativity, passion and a desire to break new ground in a constantly shifting technology and global media landscape.
Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience in digital media, production and/or MCNs
• Strong understanding of ad-supported digital content monetization including branded content, product placement, social media, etc.
• Demonstrated ability to perform rapid cycles of analysis, recommendation and implementation
• Highly creative, out-of-the-box thinker who is not afraid to push forward new ideas
• Experienced negotiator
• Excellent communication and documentation skills
• Experience working cross-functionally
• Proficiency in Korean and/or Mandarin a plus
