Purpose
The Director of Mainline Merchandising leads channel buying and merchandising for the US Levi’s Mainline Retail business. The role will partner strategically with retail leadership on developing and executing transformative channel vision and consumer experience. Direct accountability for product assortment and price strategies across categories for multiple retail formats. Use consumer, customer, and competitive intelligence to deliver product lines that achieve strategic, brand equity, and financial objectives. Lead, support, and inspire channel merchant team to high performance and propel career development.
Core Responsibilities
• Lead product assortment strategy for channel, ensuring a compelling assortment is at the center of an exceptional consumer experience
• Inspire, coach, and support retail merchandising team to success
• Monitor and react to business performance in partnership with retail cross-functional leads; drive solutions to optimize opportunities and minimize risks
• Execute best-in-class product experience through effective consumer right assortment and on-floor activation
• Design and execute an annual comprehensive and competitive retail price strategy including retail price growth trajectory across all categories, and promotional content and timing
Additional Responsibilities
Assortment Vision and Strategy
• Utilize business intelligence and company strategic objectives to inform optimal product mix
• Create and communicate a holistic consumer-informed seasonal product brief to global merchandising team to ensure seasonal assortment needs are met
• Deliver an integrated consumer-focused product strategy that will drive growth, profitability, and brand health
• Effectively communicate assortment strategy to key stakeholders, including senior leadership
• Set strategic expectations within buying team, lead and manage execution
• Execute assortment strategy with Planning & Allocation partners through financial buy planning and investment analytics
• Continually incorporate marketplace intelligence into current product decisions and strategies
Hire and Develop Buying Team
• Work with Human Resources business partner to determine caliber of talent required for individual roles and holistic team
• Manage and inspire direct reports through focused objectives, weekly one-on-one coaching sessions, and strong strategic leadership
• Focus on team development by challenging individuals through stretch assignments, greater responsibility, and enhanced delegation
Monitor and React to Business Performance
• Collaborate with Planning and Allocation partners to analyze real-time business results, incorporate intelligence and create timely solutions
• Drive solutions based on effective balance of intelligence and intuition
• Provide price based solutions such as in store promotions, price reductions, product markdowns
• Read findings of in depth hindsight for weekly/monthly/seasonal results to influence future product assortment strategies
Retail Environment Experience
• Determine and prioritize seasonal product Company website and influence vision with Brand Environment partners
• Work cross-functionally to bring product messages to life in store, including positioning, marketing assets, and store training/product knowledge
• Influence and collaborate on in-store installation strategies, including category destinations, fit placement, and grand gesture displays
Price and Promotional Strategy
• In cooperation with the Assortment Strategy, initiate and execute a retail pricing matrix that will drive growth, profitability, and brand health
• Determine price inflation or deflation requirements based on brand positioning, marketplace dynamics, and consumer economics
• Create annual promotions cadence, including calendar of promotional periods, product content, and price strategy
• Lead execution of promotions consumer experience through effective messaging, product placement, and store training
Minimum 10 years experience in merchandising required.
