Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for leading the Financial Reporting function for the Retirement Solutions Division (RSD), Company’s largest division. The Financial Reporting function owns RSD’s financial ledgers and is responsible for ensuring the timely close of RSD’s general ledger and accurate reporting of RSD’s GAAP and Statutory financial results. Financial Reporting develops and reviews financial statement analytics for all of RSD’s key lines of business. Financial Reporting also reviews and approves changes to system accounting that impact RSD’s financial statements. This area evaluates new accounting pronouncements and the application of current accounting standards to new products. The Director of Financial Reporting will serve as a key member of the financial leadership team and serve as a key financial interface with senior financial management and leadership teams. Specifically you will:
•Lead the performance and development of the Financial Reporting team, which may include Managers, Supervisors, Senior Financial Reporting Analysts and other staff, as needed
•Acts as point of contact and subject expert to provide financial results, fluctuation analysis and other metrics to company-wide stakeholders (ERM, Corporate Accounting, auditors) upon request
•Secure and deploy resources for core Financial Reporting functions
•Prioritize and plan projects based upon resource availability and senior leadership strategies and objectives
•Deliver explanation of complex RSD accounting policies to Corporate Accounting/Reporting and educates other departments within RSD on existing accounting guidance
•Facilitate system/process transformation efforts that impact RSD Financial Reporting
•Provide solutions and guidance for evaluation and implementation of accounting/reporting changes
•Assess and maintain the internal control environment for the RSD Financial Reporting
•Communicate close status, potential issues and errors, and close signoff to Corporate Finance
•Lead contributor to internal financial review meetings
FACTORS FOR SUCCESS:
•10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience with a proven track record of designing, reviewing and maintaining analytics and controls over financial reporting
•Exhibit flexibility and willingness to take on new responsibilities and assignments as they are identified and to manage various ad hoc projects
•Exceptional financial competence, solid understanding of accounting and financial concepts, deep knowledge of financial reporting and analysis techniques
•Extensive experience with accounting and financial reporting systems and tools
•Proven management experience in facilitating and execution of initiatives, managing change and leadership of a team
•Strong understanding of complex insurance industry business line products
•Strong written and oral communication skills to be able to present data clearly and concisely
•Demonstrated conviction, integrity, leadership and management ability in a complex and dynamic organization
•Strong interpersonal skills
•Demonstrated ability to make good decisions based on a mixture of analysis, knowledge, experience, and judgment
•Strong analytical skills and knowledge of accounting principles utilized to maximize compliance with GAAP, SSAP, SOX and MAR
•CPA required
