Responsibilities:
Job Purpose:
The Director will be responsible for providing finance leadership of the finance team as well as provide thoughtful analysis and insight into business trends. Essential duties and responsibilities include monthly close, budgeting, long range planning and forecasting, variance analysis, decision support projects, and ad hoc analysis.
For the company planning role, the Director will develop and deliver Corporate Financial Plans by strategically driving metrics including sales, margin, turn and GMROI for a Business Channel for current and future seasons.
Duties:
Financial Budgeting, Forecasting, and Month-end close
• Ensure the monthly close delivers accurate financial results including comprehensive analysis of key expense and balance sheet items; be able to recommend actions steps and work with business partners to execute
• Review and train team on creation of monthly financial forecasts; work with business partners to mitigate key risks and identify opportunities; ensure all risks and opportunities are appropriately communicated to key business partners
• Review and analyze daily, monthly and quarterly reports to execute, recommend to, and work with cross functional teams to implement operational inefficiencies;
• Monitor business performance and lead cross functional teams determination of updated goals
• Work with executive team to determine goals and targets along with determining business objectives and needs; ensure annual budget incorporates all corporate requirements, aligns with Company divisional strategies and considers business objectives and needs of all business partners
• Routine communication with Finance team relating to financial close, issues and deliverables. Provide leadership, direction and development to finance team
• Review variance analysis and explanations
• Organize presentations and effectively communicate to executive level succinctly
• Understand the interaction of systems and the impact to financial reporting; provide recommendations on changes to systems.
• Partner with store and corporate teams to improve specialty profitability
Company Planning
• Identify risks and opportunities based on analytical observations and provide recommendations to deliver overall company financial objectives
• Reforecast the business and provide inventory management recommendations for Channel
• Develop merchandising and financial strategies and present to cross-functional team and senior management
• At the channel/Key Performance Indicator (KPI) level: develop fiscal sales, margin, and receipt plans in both dollars and unit by month
• Highlight risks and opportunities with recommendations to deliver overall company financial objectives
• Manage inventory unit, cost and turn forecast by channel based on the financial forecast and partner with merchandise planning on managing aged inventory through the store or excess channel in a timely manner
• Develop store planning forecasting and reporting
• Analyze new stores performance with store operations and planning
• Develop sales, margin, going in margins and buy goals for planning teams prior to seasonal investment kickoff
Managing and Developing Talent
• Partner effectively with merchants and cross-functional teams
• Train, develop and retain direct reports
• Provide role clarity to direct reports
• Partner with Leadership to develop individual goals for direct reports
• Assess and develop talent to ensure succession planning for team
Business Development/Planning
• Develop value-added cross-divisional and cross-functional partnerships to maintain awareness of business activities, and leverage knowledge and best practices
• Serve as a strategic leader directly responsible for developing accurate financial forecasts that optimize sales, margin, cost movement and inventory
Qualifications:
Skills/Qualifications:
• Undergraduate and/or graduate degree preferably in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration with concentration in Finance; MBA a plus
• 7+ years of related experience
• Previous Retail finance experience required
• Strong knowledge of financial and accounting concepts
• Ability to articulate financial concepts to non-finance business partners in a clear and concise manner
• Month end close experience
• Proficient in Excel, Word and PowerPoint; Hyperion Essbase and Access knowledge a plus
• Apparel business or consumer products background
• Able to adapt to a fast pace ever changing environment
• Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects and prioritize in a dynamic environment
• Must be highly detail oriented with strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
• Data oriented and have proven ability to interpret and synthesize data, making recommendations to drive business decisions
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain business partner relationships at all levels within the organization
