(Team Overview)
The Portfolio Management & Strategy team provides portfolio management processes and strategic analysis to support the company in achieving our strategic goals and driving our long-term, sustainable growth with improved learner outcomes. It does this by:
● Identifying and tracking key market trends and opportunities that can drive growth and learning trajectories for Company’s various portfolio areas.
● Recommending strategic allocation of R&D resources to support prioritized opportunities for growth and learning impact.
● Partnering with portfolio area, product management, sales and marketing, and technology leadership teams to resolve strategic issues and opportunities and to drive product strategies.
● Providing transparency into and analysis of Company’s global product portfolio, including product-level investment, revenue, profitability, and efficacy data
● Creating a consistent and data-driven approach to product portfolio management, product lifecycle (PLC) management, and investment governance across Company
● Enabling a global Company Product Council and Strat and Ops planning process spanning product, geography and technology organizations to ensure consistent and coordinated priorities, strategy and execution plans

Role Description
The Director, English and Schools Portfolio Strategy and Management reports to the VP of Portfolio Strategy and Management and works alongside peer teams that support Portfolio Management, Market Insight and PLC design and planning. The director supports the team’s mission to develop, maintain, and communicate a English and Schools portfolio strategy that is aligned to corporate strategy and objectives. S/He is accountable for delivering strategic recommendations to leadership based on analysis of market and product portfolio data, including scenario modeling and outcome projections, in order to shape product and investment decisions. The role is responsible for providing objective, data-driven insight and analysis into key product and portfolio issues and opportunities. In addition, the role partners with the Corporate Finance and Strategy team to deliver the annual strategic plan, associated operations plan as well as analysis of strategic risks and opportunities facing the portfolio and business.
The director directly manages strategy managers and/or analysts and coaches them on strategic best practices, domain specific information, and Company’s approach to the market. S/he directs the team on quarterly and annual priorities, manages workload and assignments, and evaluates performance and compensation. Communicates and reinforces the defined global product taxonomy and necessary tooling and infrastructure to support it and holds teams accountable to follow it.
The director works collaboratively with executive leadership within the group and across the organization, driving initiatives and analysis that are frequently outside of Business-As-Usual operations, and serves as a catalyst for moving the company forward toward its medium and long-term goals.
Qualifications
Essential Skills include:
● Fluency in strategic frameworks and other forms of strategy analysis in a complex, changing industry
● Ability to lead development of strategic scenarios and financial modelling and understand financial analysis
● Ability to manage multiple senior and junior stakeholders in driving multi-part, long term strategic initiatives to completion
● Ability to frame business issues and communicate goals clearly to executives and cross-functional teams alike
● Understanding of key issues and trends in the education industry
● Fluency in managing strategic and product-related issues in high-technology setting
● Fluency in process engineering
● Ability to lead cross-functional teams in converting strategic guidance into execution
● Excellent oral and written communication skills
Qualifications:
● BA required; MBA preferred
● 8-10 years experience with a minimum 5 years’ experience in a strategy / product management / corporate planning role at an education or technology company and/or in venture capital, management consulting, or investment banking with activities in education.
● Familiarity with English and Schools domain a significant plus
● Proven record of leadership and success
