Job Description
MISSION/ROLE
The Director, Brand Copy will report to the VP, Brand Creative and work with Brand Design, Digital Design, Creative Operations & Production, Marketing, and Product Design teams to bring the brand's voice and strategic position to life. This position leads product and brand communications through creative writing and seasonal copy development in all channels of business across wholesale, inline retail, outlet retail, and digital. The role is responsible for overseeing copy development, writing for all key projects consumer-facing and internal strategic documents, storytelling across product and people stories, driving informal consumer insight studies, conceiving creative solutions to marketing strategies, and creating brand equity / lifestyle awareness through all channels.
CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Partner with Creative and Marketing leadership to create and/or lead all campaign and brand identity language, retail messaging, ecommerce copy and content, direct mail copy, email marketing, seasonal concept books and product stories / features, selling tools, and look books. Prepare all key writing for approval by head of Brand Creative & CMO.
• Audit, proofread, and edit all existing content across channels as well as outgoing artwork and communication.
• Review and direct brand content and campaign storytelling from internal and external creators, ensuring tonal and strategic alignment.
• Set the standards and tone for all product description copy; assist with overseeing Copywriter(s) in our two offices, and freelancers as needed.
• Implement a process for copy standards and guidelines to ensure a consistent style, tone, and quality of all campaign and brand language.
Requirements
• BA or BFA required, Creative Writing or English major preferred
• 5+ years of previous experience as a copywriter within a well-regarded design studio or creative agency, or at a lifestyle/apparel/retail brand
• 3 years minimum experience writing for eCommerce
• Talented storyteller with ability to focus on footwear, handbags, outerwear, and accessories with proven experience in establishing a brand's voice that engages the customer through creative writing
• Well rounded portfolio with eCommerce product information, digital marketing and advertising, conceptual / strategic brand writing, and key seasonal headlines
• Excellent conceptual skills and ability to realistically engage savvy consumers
• Excellent editing and proofreading skills
• Excellent attention to detail and process
• Excellent organizational skills, both personal and departmental
• Sensitivity to graphic design, copy fitting and typography.
• Ability to multi-task and work efficiently under pressure and maintain strict deadlines
• Refined understanding of Company consumer and the modern eCommerce consumer.
• Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Preferred experience using Google apps, Slack, Invision, and other collaborative tools
• Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite a plus
