Digital Strategist
The Desert Sun in Palm Springs, Ca., is seeking a creative thinker to execute our digital strategy.
You should be a collaborative leader who works across the newsroom while leading a team of producers. Your best practices will arm the newsroom to act swiftly during breaking news and smartly on social platforms, from Facebook groups to Instagram to whatever develops next. The digital strategist
leads engagement efforts, helps surface relevant questions and stories to pursue, and deepens our relationship with readers. The ideal candidate is fluent in video production, passionate about connecting targeted audiences with journalism and loves to experiment with new technologies.
Candidates should have a college degree and at least three years of professional journalism experience.
Internships with significant reporting or digital production will be considered.
The Desert Sun has been recognized three of the past five years as the top newsroom of its size in
California, and has taken home awards from CNPA, APME, Company, Online News Association, National Headliner Awards, Society of American Business Editors and Writers, PPAGLA, Best of the West, Knight-Risser, Overseas Press Club, PPAGLA, Edward R. Murrow and the Emmys.
The Desert Sun is two hours from Los Angeles and San Diego and 30 minutes from Joshua Tree National Park. The Coachella Valley is a prime destination for investment in solar, wind and geothermal energy and is home to the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Stagecoach, Modernism Week, BNP Paribas tennis tournament and LPGA and PGA tour events.
