Responsibilities
The digital show producer is responsible for writing and producing a daily live news show to air on KTLA’s digital platforms. He or she will oversee and organize all production elements of the show, including generating copy and writing teases and bumps. He or she will work closely with on-camera talent and others in the newsroom to build a successful news product.
The digital show producer must be able to present stories in video form with clarity and ease, all while maintaining the highest levels of quality when it comes to reporting, sourcing, transparency and journalism ethics. He or she will work in the control room/digital studio during the live show to execute the rundown and communicate with talent. Being able to think quickly, float stories and react in real-time to changes in the show are critical.
The digital show producer will have a comprehensive knowledge of news production, non-linear video editing, web publishing systems, as well as a mastery of spelling, punctuation, grammar and AP Style. Will also be detail-oriented, organized and able to prioritize and comfortably multitask under tight deadlines. He or she must be able to follow directions, perform duties, work well with others and make independent decisions.
The applicant must understand news values and story structure. She or he will be able to present breaking and developing news stories on Company website, KTLA 5 mobile apps and social media.
Familiarity and comfort with Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter are required, and the candidate should understand how social media is an asset to a news organization. She or he should also be willing to experiment and follow new developments in social media.
Candidates are preferred to have experience with Photoshop, iNews/OPUS, Final Cut Pro, fostering online communities, talking with users and reporting in Southern California. She or he will be or must quickly become highly knowledgeable about Southern Californians' news priorities and specifically KTLA viewers' interests.
Qualifications
A bachelor's degree, preferably in journalism or communication, and at least two years of producing TV news are a must. Candidates should have experience pitching stories and a familiarity with ENG/SNG operations. The candidate must have excellent command of the English language, both verbal and written. The individual must be able to work various shifts and times, including early mornings, nights and weekends. The ideal candidate will have a familiarity with online and social media metrics and analytics, and a passion for journalism excellence and the will to compete and win.
