USA TODAY NETWORK is one of the top 20 digital companies in the country, sharing the list with Google, Facebook, and Amazon. And we have over 100 million unique visitors a month, which is more than Buzzfeed, Yahoo News, and Huffington Post. Because our team consists of over 110 local properties with USA TODAY at the helm, you’ll have the luxury of living in a community you love while making a national impact.
The Greenville News and the USA Today Network Southeast Region are seeking a digital-focused planning editor to oversee our regional digital production desk that manages websites across three sites in South and North Carolina. We’re seeking someone who will be a key player in driving digital traffic growth and video engagement across the sites, someone who will always think digital first and who can help our team find innovative ways to engage audience across all our platforms, especially mobile and video.
The planning editor works with editors and coaches to plan, optimize and schedule digital content for Greenville, Anderson and Asheville. This editor then works with the digital production team to carry out that plan. Working closely with the regional analyst and the consumer experience director and understanding analytics all are a vital part of this role, as is a strong knowledge of CMS and third-party tools that can enhance the way we report digital news to our audience. It is vital for our planning editor to know why readers read what they read, and to constantly be learning how we can reach them with our content where they will consume it, and then clearly convey this information to the rest of our team. We want someone who is on the leading edge of driving reader engagement and will help us to stay there as technology continues to evolve.
Greenville is a vibrant city in the northwest corner of South Carolina, halfway between Atlanta and Charlotte. It’s a 45-minute drive to the Blue Ridge Mountains and just hours from the Atlantic Coast. Greenville is the United States’ 4th-fastest growing city, according to the latest census data, and its cosmopolitan downtown that’s known for its dining scene is the economic center of a metro area of about 1 million people. It has big city amenities, but still maintains its small-town feel.
The minimum requirements for this position include a college degree, at least two years experience in journalism, experience with content management systems and analytics, sound news judgment and innovative ideas to grow meaningful reader engagement quickly.
This editor will need to spend time in three newsrooms, with the bulk of the time focused on Greenville and Anderson in South Carolina, and occasional visits to Asheville in North Carolina.
