Company and World Report is seeking a data-savvy, critical thinker to join its Business Intelligence team.
Over the past decade, our company has transformed from a national news magazine into one of the most visited media websites in America, with a focus on helping people make important life decisions. Today we are a major provider of advice and recommendations in the Education, Health, Money, Travel, Automotive, and Real Estate verticals. And we continue to deliver high-quality news online. As our audience has grown, so has the need for us to get smarter and more efficient as a digital media business. We want to step up our capabilities in tracking user behavior and understanding demographics, interests, and intents. We want to measure more aspects of our website to give users a great experience. And of course we want to maximize our revenue opportunities and use data to drive good business decisions.
What You’d Do:
• Use web analytics tools to gather data, analyze it, and develop actionable insights and recommendations.
• Produce regular and ad hoc reports that both present and interpret data.
• Put in place and continually update the company’s tracking systems to ensure that we’re measuring our audience accurately and in ways that make sense.
• Update website tagging, metadata, and event tracking.
• Create documentation and establish repeatable processes.
• Monitor and study the competitive landscape to identify opportunities and threats.
• Present your findings in both written reports and oral presentations to stakeholders at every level of the company.
• Prepare audience insights for Sales, Marketing, Product, and Content teams.
Must Haves:
• A positive attitude. Ability to be a team player.
• Exceptional quantitative and qualitative reasoning ability.
• Self-driven, proactive work ethic.
• Experience using web analytics tools such as Google Analytics or Adobe Analytics (a.k.a. Omniture SiteCatalyst) and familiarity with the principals of web analytics.
• Strong written and oral communication skills. We want someone who will not just produce the right numbers, but be able to clearly explain and interpret them without jargon.
• Comfort working with a variety of stakeholders in different functions, especially technical teams.
• Strong understanding of Excel. We use tools such as pivot tables, index match, Report Builder, and vlookups regularly.
• Ability to quickly learn a variety of data systems – the ones that we use now and the ones that we’ll use in the future. If you don’t want to learn new things, this job might not be for you.
• BA/BS degree or equivalent experience.
Nice to Haves:
• Experience with a tag manager, ad server, demand side platform, and other digital media systems. Some of the systems we use: Tealium, Doubleclick for Publishers, Company website, Moat, comScore, Searchmetrics, Search Console, Krux, Sailthru, and Catchpoint.
• A strong understanding of statistical concepts. You don’t need to be a statistician, but terms like mean, median, quartile, and standard deviation should be in your lexicon.
• Survey research experience and knowledge of survey best practices.
• Strong design and PowerPoint skills to visualize data.
• A basic understanding of JavaScript
• Experience in the digital media industry and an interest in the future of media.
• Degree in business, economics, statistics, or a similar field. An MBA or other graduate degree is a strong plus, but don’t let the lack of one prevent you from applying.
