At tronc we are growing the project management team in our Los Angeles offices to help power the future of digital news and promote award-winning, culture-impacting journalism. We’re looking for a smart and talented development manager / project manager, an expert in their field who can come in and teach us a thing or two while ambitiously learning from a stellar team.
Responsibilities:
The development manager will work closely with product management, development, design, UX, QA, and business stakeholders to keep projects flowing efficiently in our agile environment. The right person for this position will help our company embrace an engineering-focused culture and development philosophy, and actively involve the entire team to solve customer pain points.
As scrum master for multiple projects, the role has a constant read on the pulse of the teams, ensuring on-time completion of deliverables and overall health of the group’s collaboration. Team with Product and Tech to craft delivery timelines for each project and communicate current status to stakeholders. Communicate emerging risks and the impact of feature or schedule changes to stakeholders to allow the team to make informed. Create project plans, utilize Jira to manage work tickets, follow up with stakeholders to ensure on-schedule and low-risk deployments.
Qualifications:
• 3+ years technical project management experience
• Ability to drive the definition of project scope, develop detailed project plans, and facilitate the collection of engineering, operational, and business requirements
• Excellent written and verbal communication with all levels of technical and non-technical staff
• Strong understanding of agile development methodologies
• Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
• Able to clearly, concisely, and regularly communicate status, issues, and risks to project stakeholders
• Experience documenting technical systems and training users in complex operational procedures
• Experience with infrastructure build-out, application deployment, and release management
• Demonstrated experience working with cross-departmental, co-located digital teams
• Certificates in project management like PMP, CSM are a plus
• Bachelor's Degree or advanced degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field preferred; software development experience is a plus
