The Product Planning, Development, and Marketing Group includes all the functional areas that work together to develop instructional materials that meet current pedagogical and market needs for PreK-12. Content is developed for a wide range of media formats, including interactive digital media as well as print. Colleagues within PDM have varying expertise including the following: subject-matter expertise across all academic subject areas, design, art and photo management, production management, quality assurance, content engineering, and permissions and licensing.
HMH is looking for a Designerfor our new in-house creative agency within the PDM (Product Planning, Development and Marketing) group. As a Designer for the agency, you’ll act as a visual storyteller, helping to market our educational programs and campaigns. You’re expected to have a broad range of skills across print and digital media:
Primary Responsibilities
• Design, produce, and update compelling sales tools that meet brand guidelines, support messaging, and draw the audience into the clearly defined content
• Work through all phases of design, from concept to production
• Partner with other designers to ensure new campaigns exemplify best in class, cohesive design while meeting creative brief requirements, carefully executing font, photography, and design layout.
• Collaborate closely with content strategists, copywriters and subject matter experts to ensure copy and design work well together
• Apply key creative elements to new and different types of deliverables to ensure brand and campaign consistency
• Refer to style guides for campaigns and work with lead designers to visual alignment
• Communicate any issues regarding schedules and bandwidth to the assigned project manager so that projects are kept on schedule.
• Stay on top of digital and design best practices to continually enhance your own design skills and expertise.
• Deliverables will be primarily created in MS PowerPoint, Photoshop, and Illustrator
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field
• 2+ years of experience in graphic design
• Experience designing for B2B solutions (education publishing industry is a plus, but not required)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator; willingness and ability to create an elegant, designed “feel” in programs such as PPT and Word that were not written primarily as design vehicles. Keynote experience is a plus.
• Proven track record in developing compelling creative work for complex clients and businesses
• Experience developing strong client relationships
• Speed and agility; ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure, developing creative design within tight deadlines
• Ability to work in a team-oriented environment, yet as an independent worker with minimal supervision.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
• Strong eye for design and attention to detail
• Expertise in digital channels and marketing
• Experience working with project management programs and digital asset management (DAM) systems is a plus
• Must have design portfolio
Physical Requirements
• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
• The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
