DESIGN COORDINATOR: Urban Outfitters Home
Objective: The Home Design Coordinator will support the daily operational functions of the Home Design Team in all aspects of product development. They are the glue that holds the design development process together- the movers and shakers, the note takers, and the point of contact on all in-house designs. As a Design Coordinator you will be responsible for managing a select level of classes on the UO Home Team that span across small decor items to bedding to furniture. Your goal is to facilitate all necessary design information internally and externally throughout the life cycle of our in-house product developments. You will develop key cross functional relationships with both the outside vendors and internal teams: buying and production. You will report into Senior Design Coordinator.
Design Development Process & Overview
• Working as an internal liaison for Design, Buying, and Production Teams along with our external Vendor Base, during product development life-cycle of all in-house design developments.
• Included but not limited to sending out tech packs to vendors, gathering material samples, conferencing with vendors on design questions, and working through product development challenges with our production & design teams.
• Create & maintain a design development project work sheet for each season, working on 4 seasons a year, with 2 always overlapping.
• Track each design development from initial conception through design approval. Seasonally this can range from 200-700 design developments, across product class categories, for each Design Coordinator.
• Record all approvals/rejections/amendments for each design in a clear and concise matter with appropriate supportive imagery and content.
• Make sure all samples arrive in time for finalization and critical buy meetings.
• Maintain and create lists of product standard sizes and specifications per class category needs and communicate these standards to the appropriate parties.
Sample Organization
• Processing daily incoming samples by photographing, cataloging and organizing according to UO Home standards and procedures.
• Discuss samples internally with appropriate team members with an understanding of priority needs based on seasonal calendar and deliveries.
Design Meetings
• Prepare all necessary information, manage and run weekly Design Flows and seasonal Finalizations.
• Organize and assist in the set-up of all design meetings and keep thorough notes to then publish internally across teams.
Miscellaneous Admin Tasks
• Expense reports.
• Filing and record keeping.
• Organizing sample sale Items.
• Ordering office supplies.
• Preparing hand-outs and making copies for meetings.
Required Skills:
• Must exhibit strong communication, follow up, and interpersonal skills.
• Must have strong presentation skills and be comfortable leading small and large meetings.
• Ability to prioritize projects and handle multiple tasks, and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
• Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships and communicate effectively with internal and external partners.
• Exhibit a strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Must be level headed, flexible and go-with the flow personality, while also being able to realistically manage expectations.
• Design or Product Development background is a plus.
• Needs to be comfortable opening large packages and handling heavier samples (i.e. rugs and furniture).
