Quartz is looking for a deputy photo editor to develop new ways to tell stories with images. The role involves collaborating across the newsroom as a picture editor, showing journalists how to bring a more sophisticated approach to photo selection and shaping the vision for the use of photography on Quartz’s website, iPhone app, and beyond. In addition, the deputy photo editor's challenge is to generate creative news coverage using images. We want to go beyond the traditional photo essay format, in favor of identifying news singles worth writing about, digging out archival treasures, commissioning, and even writing. We're looking for someone with a great eye, and a nose for news. You'll need an entrepreneurial approach to work, experience writing and picture editing, and familiarity with contracts and rights.
