Position Overview: The Curriculum Designer functions as the lead curriculum designer for a segment, product or service.
Working in-house as part of a project team, the Curriculum Designer:
● Informs pedagogy and learning design plans that support new programs across both digital and print components ensuring that both add to the value proposition
● Works with the Portfolio Manager in researching and defining the learner outcomes for the product and with the Efficacy and Impact team to track progress against these throughout its development and lifecycle
● Works with UX Design and E&I teams on formulation and evaluation of hypotheses informing market research during product development and feeds back output to content teams
● Informs how appropriate trends and digital innovations may be incorporated into all new products and services in such a way as to add pedagogical value
● Ensures that the product or service incorporates the Global Scale of English and is optimized to meet the target English language learners’ needs and expectations
● Provides segment requirements to Product Management, Content Management and Digital Content Production teams including authoring tool enhancements
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
● Works with the Portfolio Manager, Content Development Manager and appropriate Efficacy and Impact Manager to define the desired learning outcomes, generate ideas and create working models, ensuring that the pedagogical approach taken is aligned with the specified outcomes, and that data analytics are in place to track performance and impact.
● Works with the Portfolio Manager, Content Development Manager, UX and Efficacy and Impact Manager to define hypotheses and assumptions to validate pedagogical design principles through testing of the learner experience. Works with the aforementioned to define the approach to testing, the success metrics and reporting of results.
● Analyses the results of market testing exercises and customer data to inform the refinement of the working model and/or product brief in order to optimize and improve the learner's experience with delivery and content.
● Supports the Portfolio Manager and Content Development Manager in the creation of initial briefing documents for writers, editors and other team members as necessary.
● Works with the Portfolio Manager and Content Development Manager in developing comprehensive models and frameworks that will enable the contracted writers to generate appropriate content for all components using the appropriate tools and standards.
● Briefs external experts, consultants and/or Series Editors on the pedagogical and learning design of a new product or service and options for adapting/personalising core journeys.
● Works with the Portfolio Manager, Content Development Manager and Efficacy and Impact Manager in developing an efficacy plan appropriate for the product/markets and tracked end to end. Ensures that this is represented in the business case documentation.
● Monitors results of ongoing validation tasks and records in OMT.
● Supports Portfolio Manager, Marketing manager, and Product Operations and Customer Readiness Manager in the creation of a Product Implementation Plan and in research to inform it.
● Establishes relationships with thought leaders and experts in the segment ensuring relevant trends and development in the field are shared with the project teams.
● Works with the Portfolio Manager and Content Development Manager in planning the scope and sequence of a corpus based on the Global Scale of English and/or other specified frameworks.
● Feeds in requirements from the content team to support the GSE team in the development of segment specific learning objectives.
● Works with Curriculum and Assessment Design team to develop appropriate curriculum and assessment design standards for all segments of the ELT portfolio
● Works with the Portfolio Manager and Content Development Manager to implement these standards in the design of their courses to ensure consistency of efficacy and impact while allowing for specificity to segment.
● Evaluates Company and external technology solutions and leads on gap analysis against segment level customer requirements and use cases. Feeds back new requirements arising from this gap analysis to Product Owners.
● Works with the Portfolio Manager and Content Development Manager to generate requirements for digital solutions through brainstorming and through more dedicated structured sessions, capturing and prioritizing user needs and product features
● Represents the customer perspective/journey to UX and/or Product Management teams to inform how content will be presented, organized, and accessed within the program.
● Works with Digital Product Management team and/or vendors to define user stories for development and the acceptance criteria thereof and help them to understand the context of how the product will be used/ by whom.

Qualifications
● University/College degree in linguistics, foreign language, or related field or qualification in teaching English as a second/foreign language (Certificate or Diploma in TEFL or TESOL)
Skills/Knowledge
● Sound business and technical acumen, with the ability to navigate a complex and highly matrixed organization effectively, establishing effective communication lines to multiple stakeholders
● Ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines, remaining pragmatic and results-focused.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
● Able to deliver excellent didactic content in line with Company English standards and syllabi, while remaining focused on customer needs and wants; remaining pragmatic and focused on deadlines and divisional objectives.
● Expertise in translating customer feedback into winning product features
● Well-informed on pedagogical trends and well-connected to experts in the field of language teaching and learning
