Description
Company is seeking a talented creative technologist to join a growing team in the Hoboken New Jersey. We are charged with developing the next generation digital content design for students and teachers that elevate the learning experience. In this role, you will use your production ready HTML, CSS and JavaScript skills to help support and build the next generation of Company’s digital content. You will also oversee the handoff of code and management of version control and ongoing documentation, in collaboration with internal developers, content vendors and stakeholders who are involved in crafting the next generation of online content.
We’re looking for that certain someone who wants to use their excitement for technology and publishing to help craft modern epub’s and work in a fast-paced publishing environment. If you are a passionate craftsman and wield SASS, markup and javascript to tell stories and move users, then we are excited to hear from you.
Responsibilities:
● Create next generation digital education content, including re-usable CSS themes and embeddable widgets.
● Deliver production ready front end code to content developers and engineering teams.
● Help create and maintain a SASS based epub theme library.
● Help create and maintain a library of widgets and interactives for use in epub3 titles.
● Work with editorial staff, in-house designers, UX designers and product managers to create early prototypes of next-generation books.
● Work with QA to ensure that books and widgets meet the set standards.
Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience
● Bachelors degree in design, web design or other related discipline.
● 3-5 years of experience in a design related field.
● 2-3 years of web development and experience with jQuery.
● Strong competency in HTML, CSS and semantic mark-up.
● Strong JavaScript ability.
● Firm grasp of cross-browser (especially mobile) JS and CSS complexities.
● Understanding of the fundamentals of software development, including best practices and OOD design patterns.
● Experience with Twitter Bootstrap or other UI frameworks.
● Experience with CSS pre-compiler, like LESS or SASS.
● AJAX development experience. In-depth knowledge of available JavaScript libraries and frameworks a plus.
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
● Ability to manage one's time effectively to meet multiple, tight deadlines.
● Mobile application development a plus.
Desired Skills & Experience
● Knowledge of epub3 specs and packaging.
● Knowledge of IDPF specs on epub3 development and epub scripted components
● Experience with Company website, shell scripts or other scripting based languages
● Experience with automation and unit testing
