DESCRIPTION:
The State and Local Tax team within Company’s Corporate Tax Department is looking for a Director level candidate to focus primarily upon on state and local tax audit management, as well as state tax accounting risk under FIN 48. This position reports to the Vice President - Company Deputy General Tax Counsel State & Local Taxation.
Responsibilities in this area will include exposure to multi-jurisdictional tax audits. Responsibilities in the area include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Interact with state income/franchise tax auditors.
• Manage Company Statute of Limitation Periods and corresponding Waivers.
• Respond to state IDRs and state tax notices.
• Provide recommendations during each state tax audit to the Company Deputy General Tax Counsel State & Local Taxation regarding course of action next steps .
• Work with the Company Tax Compliance group, other members of the tax department and/or the Company financial reporting group to help resolve state tax audit matters.
• Work on state tax protests, as well as administrative appeals.
• Bring state tax audits to resolution through settlement agreements.
• Communicate tax issues broached during state tax audits to the Company Tax Compliance group’s attention in order to be considered for current tax return filing positions, as well as quantification and consideration for tax accounting under FIN 48, or state effective tax rate.
• Attend weekly and quarterly group meeting to discuss new state tax developments and share thoughts with other tax team members regarding tax returns and FIN 48 state tax risk.
• Maintain ongoing State Fin 48 State Tax Risk Master Spreadsheet, including updating interest expense calculations
QUALIFICATIONS:
• 5-8 years of state and local tax experience, including working with state tax auditors.
• Big 4 accounting firm and/or Media/Entertainment Industry experience is preferred.
• MBA with emphasis in Tax, an MST and/or a CPA license is a plus.
• Exceptional time management and people management skills.
• Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and organizational skills; strong attention to detail.
• Ability to effectively use various computer programs such as Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint and tax return software packages (CorpTax).
