Background Description
The Business Development Manager (BDM), Company College London, is a key role in Company College (PCL) in terms of broadening the range of employer partners for the business, particularly in the realm of the provision of degree and higher apprenticeship programmes.
Purpose
The core responsibility of the role will be to establish and develop partnerships with employers in the provision of degrees and degree/higher apprenticeship programmes. It will also include establishment and development of partnerships with employers across a range of sectors in the design, development and delivery of our degree and higher apprenticeship programmes. This includes contribution to the design of degree and degree/higher apprenticeship programmes and associated learning resources; arranging workshops/guest lectures/industry events by employer partners; sourcing internship and employment opportunities for PCL students; business development responsibility for the recruitment of students on to Company degree and degree/higher apprenticeship programmes; as well as the embedding of degree and degree/higher apprenticeships within employers' learning and development (L&D) programmes. This includes employers across all industry sectors, and small, medium and large sized organisations. In essence, this is a B2B sales role, which is reflected in the split remuneration between base salary and sales-based commission.
Rationale:
Employer engagement is the main USP of Company College London, and the BDM role is crucial to establishing industry partnerships that deliver this USP. As PCL expands its number of degree and degree/higher apprenticeship programmes it requires greater resource to work on employer engagement and the BDM role is a key part of this greater resource. And as degree and higher apprenticeships expand with the incepetion of the Apprenticeship Levy from April 2017, it is central to our growth strategy that we expand the number of employers in partnership with whom we offer these programmes.
Key Accountabilities
• Selling our degree and degree/higher apprenticeship programmes into companies.
• Undertaking research into trends and issues for employers regarding degree and degree/higher apprenticeship recruitment, corporate degrees, and the sponsoring of employees on degree and higher apprenticeship programmes
• Maintaining an up to date knowledge of the funding available to employers for degree and degree/higher apprenticeship provision for their staff, and identifying opportunities for Company and its employer contacts to optimise their contribution to the Apprenticeship Levy.
• Maintaining an understanding of employer recruitment cycles and needs.
• Developing resources for employer contact both for presentation to employers and follow up information documents.
• Identifying suitable potential employer contacts and devising strategies to engage with them for workshops, guest lectures, industry events, research projects, internship, mentoring and employment opportunities for PCL students;and working with other Company businesses as appropriate (e.g., TQ).
• Attending industry conferences and represewnting PCL, internally and externally.
• Maintaining a CRM database on Salesforce of employer contacts, to include contact details, summary of status of the relationship, pipeline information regarding recruitment of employees on to Company degree and degree/higher apprenticeship programmes, and keeping an up to date set of file notes relating to key meetings.
• Managing ongoing relationships across a range of employers to be agreed, covering both collaboration and business development, the latter to include revenue targets from recruitment of employees on to PCl degrees.
• Other accountabilities as assigned by the Vice Principal (Industry Engagement), PCL.
• Participating in Boards and Committees as agreed with the VL (IE), writing and presenting any relevant reports, advising Company management and presenting information to senior levels of the organisation as requested.

Competencies:
• B2B sales expertise, preferably in Higher Education, professional training or related fields
• Knowledge of the issues faced by the contemporary Higher Education sector in the UK, and a strong interest in participating in its development and modernisation via the private sector.
• Proficiency in Salesforce.
• Engagement of employers with our programmes in terms of: design, development, delivery, and for research projects, internships, mentoring and employment opportunities for students.
• Managing students in workshops and research projects with employers.
• Managing partnerships with blue chip organisations.
• Managing budgets and preparing forecasts.
