Overview

Position Summary: The Audiologist I/ Student Extern serves as an audiologist in training, conducts patient assessments, participates in the development of the plan of care, implements and evaluates care according to patient specific age and/or developmental needs and scope of practice. Collaborates with other health care team members in the delivery of care. Clinical Skills and Expertise / Documentation: Utilizes audiology process to assess and plan interventions for a limited number of patients of minimal complexity as appropriate to the work area. Under supervision, participates in implementing teaching plans for patients and their families that reflect sensitivity to cultural and ethnic issues. Completes the documentation of all care provided. Provides functional supervision to aides in compliance with department guidelines. Knowledge and Evidence-Based Practice: Begins to understand the performance improvement process and observes the participation of audiologists in committees/programs/projects for the unit/area/hospital. Learns the need for compliance with hospital and unit/area/department policies, procedures, and protocols, and the importance of maintaining current on all changes and updates. Attends all required CHLA education programs/in-services and completes all assigned self-learning modules. Leadership: Learns all job responsibilities and the delegation process to provide safe, quality patient care. Learns the process for reporting problems and using an appropriate chain of command. Maintains productivity standards and manages resources in a cost effective manner. Professional Behavior and Communication: Communicates with team members, colleagues, patients, and families in a professional and positive manner. Seeks out assistance as needed. Professional Development: Sets goals for continued professional growth. Completes core competencies and maintains professional licensure, certification or registration as required.
Minimum Qualifications: Basic skills with audiometric equipment. Working knowledge of computers, data collection, and analysis. Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully, verbally and in writing. Additional competencies may be required by the work location.Â
Education/Licensure/Certifications: Bachelors Degree in Audiology or Communication Disorders, 3 years of graduate training, and a current graduate student in an AuD doctoral program. California state RPE (Required Professional Experience) license in audiology. Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), specifically Health Care Provider, certification.
Pay Scale Information
$52,208.00-$90,178.00

Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the job or the industry. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
