Associate Design Director, Visual Merchandising, Bobbi Brown
Description
PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVE:
Responsible for developing and executing tester design and production related to permanent and seasonal merchandising including tester updates, displays for conferences and meetings, production of seasonal global merchandising guidelines, recommendations for in-store visuals, etc. Manage visual merchandising requests. Work closely with Creative, Marketing and Sales teams to create compelling visual merchandising solutions in keeping with Bobbi Brown aesthetic and brand imaging. Maintain awareness of current trends in visual arts as well as an understanding of materials cost and time requirements on projects.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Merchandising Unit Design
• Create new and innovative merchandising design solutions to keep Bobbi Brown brand looking fresh, new and at the forefront of design in a very competitive marketplace. Also, create inhouse 3-D models and comps for design presentation.
• Work with Corporate Global Merchandising Development in the development process with vendor. Execute vendor-required specifications and to-scale dimensioned drawings/templates on new designs for manufacturer.
• Coordinate with Marketing and Sales to maintain and updates programs and new launches on main unit templates, launch unit platforms and special on counter display units, as required seasonally.
• Photograph all final units for Marketing and Sales presentations and develop user-friendly instruction sheets to ship with all materials for display at counter.
Technical Illustration Drawings and Archive
• Draw all products, cartons, fixtures, caselines, units, testers, etc. Maintain current to-scale image library to be used in all drawings related to the merchandising department and as needed for creative requirements.
Counter Merchandising
• Work closely with Director, VM, Sales, Merchandising in development of seasonal Merchandising Guidelines for Spring/Summer and Fall/Holiday including: New counter, backwall and vitrine drawings showing product updates, along with seasonal event areas. Specify lightbox visual requirements as per seasonal/brand iconic images.
• Write all copy for Visual Merchandising Manual including basic merchandising lessons, tester updates, launch unit updates, special merchandising requirements on specific product display, etc.
Global New Door Openings
• Coordinate with store design and marketing in creating domestic and international new store instructional/merchandising site-specific drawings.
• Interpret architectural plans/blueprints and create detailed plans inclusing such information as current seasonal merchandising caseline product line-up recommendations, placement of testers and launch units and site-specific lightbox visual croppings and placement.
• Work closely with creative director and creative team to ensure continuity of brand messaging in store.
Travel Retail
• Obtain architectural renderings to translate and develop to-scales and easy to use
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Position requires 5+ years, preferably in the cosmetics or fashion arena, in visual merchandising or industrial design, store planning/design, event design, graphic design, or related experience, with 2 years supervisory experience.
• Strong graphic design with ability to follow graphic standards and 3-dimensional design skills.
• Strong ability to render and communicate ideas, flexibility of vision, responsiveness to creative input and great visual sensibilities.
• Must be exceptionally creative and innovative, and be able to articulate thoughts and ideas clearly.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to obtain cooperation from all levels of staff and vendors resulting in smooth completion of project initiatives.
• Ability to work well in a team environment, contribute ideas, and interact with other departments to obtain current information in an ever-evolving environment on trends, customers, market conditions, etc.
• Ability to receive input from others, and be able to persuasively discuss/defend design solutions while remaining flexible and open to other points of view with both internal and external groups.
• Superior organizational skills to handle the details of many projects simultaneously with ability to juggle many pressing priorities with ease in a fast paced environment.
• Understanding of current Fashion/Retail trends, ability to identify and translate trends in the industry and the consumer marketplace.
• Computer skills: On Mac platform; Illustrator, Photoshop, Quark, In-Design, Maya or equivalent 3-D drawing program, all Microsoft Office programs.
• Thorough knowledge of all digital file formats and their best-practice applications.
• Understanding of server protocol and follow through on file back-up and archiving procedures to prevent the loss of work product.
• Excellent hand-skills to comp creative concepts to highest presentation quality.
