Primary Purpose
Assists Merchandise Buyer in selecting merchandise for order, placing order and inventory distribution.
Key Responsibilities
• Determine appropriate merchandise decisions utilizing the Open to Buy through the review of weeks of supply, on hand quantities, seasonal trends, receipt and replenishment patterns, in partnership with the Buyer
• Assist with plans and schedules in conjunction with the Buyer's purchasing activity by monitoring the monthly beginning of month plans and fulfilling open to ship needs to achieve designated inventory plans
• Maintain purchase order and SKU database. Review and adjust purchase orders according to business needs, in partnership with Buyer
• Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships. Research and resolve vendor issues.
• Work collaboratively with advertising staff and allocation team to ensure that all ad orders are properly allocated
• Work on special projects as assigned by Buyer and or Merchandise Manager
• Track purchase orders to ensure the timely delivery of merchandise to the distribution center
• Partner with the Distribution Center staff to make sure incoming purchase orders are received properly
• Troubleshoot and resolve any purchase order issues
• Other duties as assigned
Dimensions
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education and Experience Requirements
• BA/BS Degree in retail/merchandising, business or finance preferred
• Strong retail math skills
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to make sound decisions
• Proven ability to build strong relationships with internal business partners as well as external vendors
• Excellent organizational skills and computer skills a must
• Team player who can work effectively in a fast paced environment
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Solid negotiation skills and highly developed problem solving skills required
• Prior experience as an assistant buyer in a retail or e-commerce environment a plus
